I love witches, and I recently read a piece on how ghost stories used to be a common tradition on Christmas Eve (a la A Christmas Carol). I figured I would return to this series to continue a tradition that I find very intriguing, and again, I love witches.

The story was interesting, but I probably won’t read more of the series. I’m not particularly invested in the characters, but the creepiness factor hit all the right notes for me! What can I say, I’m more of a Halloween person than a Christmas person.

This novella is the second in the Lychford series that features witches Lizzie, Autumn, and Judith. The setting is a lovely English village named Lychford where the trio of witches are becoming settled and the imagery in the book feels very homey and picturesque, especially as this story takes place around Christmas time.

I enjoy the mentorship and supportive friendship the witches share. Although their world is magical, they still pop out for drinks and worry about how to handle romantic entanglements. When they face personal or external struggles, they turn to each other for help.

This story is quite complicated for it being a novella. There’s a “ghost” story and dark forces to deal with. This book weaves together a few storylines and it works really well. The world building is coming along nicely in this series and I’d say Lychford is place I’d like to visit, maybe even taking the time to attend a service at Reverend Lizzie’s church, St. Martin’s and then going to the pub afterward for a pint!

I love these novellas. You can read these little books in one day. It's a complete story and ties up nicely and actually is full of suspense and fast action. Love the three witches especially since one is a vicar.

A sequel, and one feels the writer is starting to bed down in the world he has created. A Christmas story with a real twist - to say more would be spoilery. Very much worth reading, however.
