I loved this book so much I am really looking forward to reading more soon. I loved all of the characters but I especially loved Theo and Soren I liked their relationship I hope it develops more later in the next couple books. I loved Theo for her tenacity and strength to overcome so much and finally get what was taken from her and her people when her country was destroyed and taken over by a tyrant. I also loved the character that surround Theo like Blaise and Art and also Heron they are such well developed characters I am looking forward to reading more about them. I loved the story it started with Theo's worst nightmare come to life her mother killed and with her losing even her own name because her kingdom was taken over by a tyrant she is treated terrible so she has just been surviving until the spark of rebellion was put there by an old friend everything became really interesting from there looking forward to reading the next book.

This was such an interesting read. Not only in terms of content but also my feelings toward it. I felt from the beginning that the writing distinctly lacked of nuance. Time and again Sebastian would use a clever analogy or point at a slightly complex thought but the moment I could applaud her for it, she would go and ruin it by telling me what she meant. This is perhaps because this was her debut but it felt very simple and not in a good way. The writing made it seem like YA for beginners but the content was a lot more mature and even sophisticated in plotting.
However, by the end I was either able to ignore Sebastian's writing and focus on the plot or she genuinely improved over the book. I am fascinated with where this story will go, especially that of Cressentia who ended up being the most interesting of all. I think she ended the book with enough intrigue that I am interested in the sequel. We'll see but till then, hmm.

Breakdown: Very standard YA, it really threw you into the plot of the book leaving plenty of room open for interpretation. but the magic system was fun and easy to understand. I did feel really sad when she very clearly made the wrong choice. But I loved all of the characters. They're all so unique and like-like. They talk like people in their positions would be expected to talk and they're all just doing their best. I was low-key hoping for some Red Queen vibes from it but it is surprisingly very different. Like, if you're looking, you can find similarities but other than that. This book was pretty good if you like this genre. However, we warned that if you don't tend to read this genre, you probably won't like this book.

Disclaimer : this is a rant review, so my thoughts are all over the place

ੈ✩‧₊˚ I’ve never been this pissed after reading a book before. I will sell my soul, I will gladly reject entry to heaven just to see THORA dead.

How can someone be so insufferable?

₰ This bitch was sheltered her whole life lmao. She thinks because she gets whippings at her back once a month she has gone through hell????
₰ She literally had servants bathing her, she was having tea parties, laughing with her fuck ass bestfriend waiting for “someone to come save her” whiles her people were dying.
₰ She even goes as far as being angry at them for rebelling. Because whenever they rebel she gets whipped

Superb read! Well written, with a great plot and characters. I was engrossed from start to finish. This book has action, suspense, intrigue, and tension. Theo is the rightful Queen of Astrea and she is willing to do anything to take it back. Theo is gritty, clever, determined, ready to do whatever to help her friends and her people. There are several twists and turns, and the ending is amazing. Blaise, Soren, Cress, Artemesia, Heron I fell in love with all of them. I cannot wait for the second book in the series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.

It's actually pretty good. The romance surprisingly gave me butterflies and some of the scenes evoked emotion which is always nice!

I received an ARC of this book through First In Line. #UnderlinedReviews

When I started reading this book, it felt like I had read it before. It's a bit like the beginning of Throne of Glass and Snow Like Ashes. As I kept reading, it became a bit different than those books, but still reminded me of them. Altogether, a good book.
