This one started a bit slow. Eli was a bit too obsessed with a woman who wasn’t into him. Thankfully she was in Italy and also was nice. But while Eli was trying to reinvent himself and have a life makeover to become the handsome hero he always should be, he meets Leah.

Leah was a foster kid and had no real family or friend group. She is overworked trying to keep ends meeting. And due to her numerous jobs, she gets roped into help with his life makeover. So cute because she definitely falls in love with his family before him and I really enjoyed that.

I really enjoyed how this book moved to have a strong second half. Once we got into the emotions of Leah and Eli it got way better. His initial obsession with Victoria was quite irritating but once we move passed that and he started having feelings for Leah, it turned the book around. Their chemistry was on point and adorable. The scene where he tells her how he feels was perfection.

I definitely recommend this. It was a fun little romp.

this was so fun to read!!!!!

literally the only con i had was that i didn’t recognize or was unfamiliar w/ all the romantic movies they mentioned & their respective actors… i def had to skim through those pages KDHSKDJ BUT asides from that, i enjoyed the small town friends-to-lovers trope the book had going on ☝

This book is a lesson in taking Goodreads ratings and reviews with a grain of salt. I saw this book at the bookstore but ended up not buying it because the general consensus on here was that it was “just okay”. but nothing extraordinary. Well when I saw it at my local library the next day I thought why not give it a shot? So glad I did because this really was a cute read. I don’t even mind that it was a fade-to-black with the romance and that is saying something because normally I’m all about the spice. And while, no it isn’t anything groundbreaking or profound it was a good time.

I love romcoms and I’m glad to report that this one was fun! Leah and Eli slow burn romance kept me rooting for them to get together sinvce beginning. I’d like to see this book turned to series or as a movie!
If you’re looking for a fun rom-com to make you smile — read this. This istotally engaging and so enjoyable. I easily devoured this in one sitting.

A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press & Wednesday Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This plot was all over the place. Just utter chaos and not in a way that felt right at all.

The characters were good and all but the plot. I cannot get over how erratic it came across.

I think for a novel that literally has the words rom-com in it’s title, it does far too much paying homage to classic and staple rom-coms through title dropping then it actually does contributing to the sub-genre itself. Because the plot execution was none of the fun parts of rom-coms and just the drama of it all, and it was never delivered in a manner that left me with the cozy conundrum of guilty-pleasure-but-feel-good vibes that I attribute to rom-coms.

I want an HEA that I can invest in without shame, and this was not that.

Trigger warnings: cancer, death, grief, foster care

I had hopes for this one, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I feel like the biggest issue I had with it was the pacing. The romantic storyline felt both too slow and too fast. There's obviously a level of angst and pining because of the premise, but I expected that to be wrapped up much quicker. At the same time, when the main characters finally got together, it was a little too fast? There'd been a lot between them for it to just magically go away so that was strange for me. I also felt like Eli as a character wasn't the love interest I was hoping for. His revelation of his feelings for Leah didn't happen in the best way and it kind of cheapened the moments between them. Also, there's a really weird scene toward the end that had me so confused on why it was necessary. However, I did really like the premise and I enjoyed the side characters a lot. I enjoyed what the book had to say about home and found family and understanding yourself. I just wish it had just been a little faster because it took me a month to read when I can usually get through romances in a day or two.
