DNF at 47%. No. Just... no. Weak storyline, terrible writing, cliches... No. Didn't enjoy it. Waste of time.

This book to me was a little dark but different from what I read normally. This book could be a little too true to life from reading some headlines in today's world. But I enjoyed the book. I think the story scared me out a little and I like that is a good thriller. * I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

It was a read that sucks you in, but I had a problem with the constant romance appearing.
In my opinion it was not needed at all I feel like a girl kept captive and abused for 8 years would not be on the track for romance within the first 3 days of her escape... I get the view of wanting to go back to how things were before, but it seemed put in there because "It's a book for teens it needs a romance"

I enjoyed how the villain of the book was written a narcissistic beloved guy who could sweet talk an eskimo into buying snow. It's a fresh air of the "mistreated loner wolf" stereotype we frequently see in these type of books.

I enjoyed it but every time the romantic elements showed I got annoyed. I wanted the focus to be on the development of her as a victim rising and though that does mean moving on in all aspect even a romance but within a few days of escape just meh...

Lily was abducted eight years ago but now she and her daughter have escaped and are back home. The book describes the impact on Lily's return has on her family, especially her twin sister Abby, and the impact the identity of the abductor has on the town they live in. Although I read this book fairly quickly I can't say that it totally gripped me. Readable story but not as tense as the blurb makes out.

This book had me gripped from the first page to the last. It was extremely hard to put down. I was reading it every spare moment. If you want a good thriller I would recommend this one. Surprising ending!

In this novel we get the story beginning with the escape of Lily. She's been held captive for years, had a child with her rapist and endured unimaginable abuse (which we thankfully don't get lots of detail about).
What we focus on here is how Lily copes once she returns to 'normal' life.
While this was a really interesting idea, and I was quite gripped by it during reading, there are definitely too many things going on and this reduces the impact.
I felt the relationship between Lily and her sister was well-portrayed, but a lot got thrown in and didn't always add to the experience.
The ending-where Lily gets her almost normal-was rather optimistic, but it needed to be as the rest of the book was so bleak.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Throughout this book I kept thinking how good it was, but how bad it could be if the author went in a certain direction. The author does a good job at capturing the struggles and joys in the characters lives. I enjoyed that this book wasn't strictly about Lily's years in captivity, like all (?) books dealing with situations like this. Instead it's about life after she's freed and building a new life for herself and her daughter, Sky. Yes, there are parts that were unrealistic and I was quite skeptical that things would play out like that in real life but hey, it's fiction right?

Overall I loved this book and finished it in 2 days.

The premise sounded interesting and I'm always up for a thriller; however, this one fell flat for me. If anything, it was a quick read.
