As charming as this one was at times, I don't think I enjoyed it quite as much as I did Aidan and Jude's story.

I DID enjoy how the traditional roles are flipped on their heads. How Brenna's the practical-minded handy woman and the headstrong one and Shawn the idealistic dreamer, a singer-songwriter with his head in the clouds.

I also loved the family drama with Brenna and her sister. I wanted there to be more of it, in fact. But with Nora Roberts you rarely get any real grit or angst. Just when it's getting good, it's solved.

The faerie/ghost story mattered less in this book, too, in my opinion. In fact, I'm not really sure either of them were necessary other than maintaining the overarching theme for the series. A lot of the whimsy from book 1 faded in this one and I'm not 100% sure why. Perhaps because outside of bickering with each other and then sleeping together Brenna and Shawn rarely interact. There's no substance to their relationship--which struck me odd because they've known each other all their lives.

Because of that, I don't really know that what spawned between Brenna and Shawn read as love for me. Instead I got sex for sex's sake, that suddenly became confessions of love out of nowhere and with no real reason. You mean to tell me that growing up with someone you never once look at them and wonder, only to fuck 'em a few times and then just be madly head-over-heels? Ehhh.

But honestly, these are pretty short, generally shallow books, that are fun sweet reads without a ton of deeper stuff to chew on, so I don't really know what else I was expecting.

I enjoyed this for what it was; I guess because I like this world and these characters, I was hoping for more than we got. 3.5 stars.

I wish I enjoyed this as much as I did the first one but it failed to charm me in the same ways.

While Brenna is adorable, I found the conflicts surrounding her (mainly with her sister) too tiring as I do not enjoy plots that are driven by a lack of communication. She was also quick to over react violently and that’s not cute, especially towards such a sweet love interest!

I loved Shawn, he felt very realistic as a character and I enjoyed his chapters the most. Also love that the culture of music in Ireland was touched on through him!

The faerie plot line was once again a shining light for me, no surprise! More of the beautiful but sad ghost of Lady Gwen and a glimpse of the faerie halls under the cottage hill were definite highlights. I enjoyed seeing the less benevolent side of faerie Prince Carrick in his interactions with Shawn, and I’m excited to see where his story ends up in the next book!

This was my first book by Nora Roberts, and I can definitely see why she's so popular. She did a great job of creating two characters and a relationship that I could care about, without into falling into any overly dramatic traps. I will definitely pick her up again when I'm craving a romance story.
