I initially read the first chapter of this book online, was hooked and needed to know more, only to have the book sit for a while waiting to be read. I stumbled across this when scrolling through my library, and immediately started reading. I really enjoyed reading The Chaos of Standing Still, and so much happens within the pages it's hard to believe it's just one night in an airport, where the characters are stuck waiting for the snow storm to stop and flights to leave again. Ryn was someone who I instantly liked, I loved her attitude, her constant need to ask google questions, and best of all her blame list. But I also felt sorry for her loss and her guilt at surviving and how she lives her life with these feelings. I enjoyed reading about the adventures and high jinx that Ryn and Xander get up to, from subway surfing, to made up names, and parties. This was another book that I fell into head first and didn't stop till I'd finished.

Ryn's life changed when her best friend died in an car accident. She is soon stuck in Denver airport on the anniversary of Lottie's death because of a blizzard. She meets Xander and the two soon open up to each other, both weighed down by their own issues.

This was an interesting novel about two flawed individuals that met at an airport, dealing with their traumatic pasts and things they are keeping to themselves.
A great novel and a great addition to bookshelves!

Cute, a little all over the place at times, but a fun read.

I enjoyed the story a lot and the writing style was awesome. I don’t like Lottie or Ryn though?? Lottie is really not a good friend from the stories Ryn tells of her and Ryn just irked me because of her reluctance to deal with her life going on without Lottie. Their friendship just seemed toxic. The story was so long but I still felt like I needed more details... still, I would read more from Jessica Brody, though.

THIS WAS SUCH A GREAT BOOK!! There were plenty of hilarious moments (I literally could not stop laughing), and a really beautiful storyline. The characters were charming and witty, and had so much chemistry together! I absolutely loved it. The only thing I didn't like was that there wasn't a sequel :(

OVERALL: Please read it!

I was so intrigued by this book and yet ended up disappointed. Jessica Brody's story about Ryn Gilbert, who spends a day trapped in the Denver airport on the anniversary of her best friend's death in a drunk driver accident, felt too pat and too long. This just didn't emotionally resonate with me .

I don't have personal experience with mental illness or a loss of someone that I was this close to, but it seemed to me that it was very well done with this book. I enjoyed reading Ryn's story and how she struggled with every day life and honestly it was the perfect scenario: being stranded somewhere with absolutely no where to run and hide from her problems and meeting a stranger who carries baggage of his own.

I appreciated that she was bogged down most of the time by her demons and that she wasn't just automatically "fixed" but the cute boy she just met. There were so many more layers to her recovery and multiple people that had a hand in helping her come out of her shell and forcing her into uncomfortable situations to deal with the present. Now is that always the best way to handle things? No. There were numerous time where I just expected her to go into a full on panic attack. She did have her panic attack moments, I just expected her to have more triggers. Maybe I just wasn't giving her character enough credit, or I didn't realize the rational part of her brain would take over more, almost more like a survival mode.

I loved the setting, the different characters, and how the story played out. Great book!

This is a truly beautiful and hilarious story about grief and moving on. & I absolutely loved it!! The Chaos of standing still is a great book and gives me a new perspective on grief. I loved the flashbacks and Xander, Ryn, Lottie, and Troy. Only thing I'd fix is to add Xander's point of view, but that would definitely change the story.
