I really enjoyed this book, and it inspired me to do something similar in the future.
I did enjoy that at the end, she gave specific dollar amounts of what she saved, spent, and lived on over the year of her ban, because it did help me to realize that with my current income and type of job, it may not be the best time to take this challenge on đ

The Year of Less is first and foremost a memoir on minimalism. The approach the author took was unlike any I had ever read before. She speaks about the problems with excess living. In her case she had trouble with alcohol, spending, and eating. As a result, she challenged herself to a shopping ban and it changed the way she thought about buying things, owning things, and why living with excess can be unhealthy.

I must admit I was a bit skeptical as I started this book. It was recommended to me on my library page and I was curious. I was surprised by how deep the author went into the big âwhyâ behind her decisions to buy and consume less. It wasnât just about discarding what doesnât âspark joyâ anymore but really about digging deeper into why she made her decisions. It was a very honest and touching read (or listen, as I listened to the audiobook), and easy to read. I definitely recommend it if youâre looking for spring cleaning your life inspiration!

Reminded me a little of Glennon Doyle's Untamed, in that part of the author's journey was overcoming addiction, and deriving many insights from that process. Like Doyle, the author also continues to strive for a more and more true version of herself through hard work and experimentation and living a life that may be outside ordinary expectations.
