The characters were confusing and the plot made no sense. The writing was not that good.

Believe whatever you want but religion is a cult.

Really interesting motive

I read a lot of these types of books but this one was fairly unique. A young girl walks into a police station and confessed to killing a young boy. But why did she do it? Who else is involved? And does it have anything to do with the cult-like church in town. Characters were interesting and believable. While clearly the book deals with violence, it was not overly gory and there was no sex or language I noticed.

I liked the premise of this story and was hooked pretty early on. It’s a fun read and an interesting take on a whodunnit.

Honestly, this book was much better than I expected! Full of twists and turns that did a decent job of keeping you in suspense. No pointless romance, which I was immensely pleased by, especially as I thought it was headed that way early on. The writing is good, easy to read without being boring. I definitely recommend this for any “thriller” readers looking for a quick pass.

A mystery that somehow has too many hints and not enough clues. Members of a cult-like church are anxious to keep shield laws from passing in Idaho. Young women are missing. Children are dying. In the end there is the fact that an old battery plant is probably polluting the area. We never do get to the bottom of so many babies dying... simply because the Church frowns on medical providers? Really a stretch at times.

I think I got this one through Amazon First Reads and the premise really appealed. Whilst the storyline was enough to keep me engaged, it didn’t really pull me in and I have to say I didn’t really get invested in the characters.

What I did like was the dual timeline as you’re filling the investigation by FBI Lucy Thorne into the murder of young boy Noah, and the events and multiple viewpoints of characters involved in the story leading up to Noah’s death and beyond. I will say that I didn’t see the big reveal coming - good plotting by Labuskes, but sadly as mentioned before, I just wasn’t invested in the characters.

Meh - 2.5 stars for me. Super interesting premise - a girl confesses to a murder and says nothing more. No motive. No explanation. Agent Thorne tries to solve the case, wrapped around a church that doesn’t believe in medical care for any reason. Full of lies and secrets, I expected this book to be better than it was.

I read this one in 4 nights. It is quite a page turner. Everyone was a suspect for me, even the sheriff. Every time I thought I figured it out, there was another twist to make me guess again. I was hooked from start to  finish.

Always a good mystery book when I have no clue what the outcome will be
