Overall a very delightful anthology with varying emphasis on steampunk and romance. In fact, I would argue that one (Chickie Hill's Badass Ride), as charming as it is, has no steampunk at all because just putting some steam in a car doesn't quite cut it but it was a damn fun story. The stories ranged from bittersweet to funny to even kind of creepy (thank you, The Cannibal Fiend of Rotherhithe). I wanted some to be longer (ex Tick Tick Boom) and some where just perfect as is. At least one was kind of gut-punching given the timing of Ukraine's suffering and persecution (Under Amber Skies). Deadwood had me cackling. Code of Blood felt like a wonderful mix of fairy tale and alternate history. Rude Mechanicals cracked me up. The King of the Greenlight City damn near broke my heart.

Read this for Adrienne Kress' piece, which, as expected, was fantastic!

What a brilliant, thrilling, wonderful collection of stories. I really don't think I've ever enjoyed a book of short stories more. I liked almost every story immensely. The only one that didn't grab me (and I didn't finish) was "Chickie Hill's Badass Ride." The 1960s setting and slang turned me off and the plot was weird.

I haven't read a lot of steampunk so I was surprised that this collection included so much fantasy. Surprised, but pleased. The two concepts work really well together. Also, don't be turned off by the subtitle "13 Steampunk Romances." While each story does contain a smattering of romance, kissing, and courtly intrigue, that usually wasn't the main plot. The stories contain strong female characters, clever dialogue, twists and turns, and of course plenty of clockwork. Because of the title and the female protagonists, boys probably won't pick this up, but there are a couple of stories inside that would appeal to them.

My very favorite stories included:
"Rude Mechanicals"
"Wild Magic"
"The Clockwork Corset"
"The Airship Gemini"
"The Emperor's Man"
"Tick, Tick, Boom"

several very mediocre stories, a couple brilliant and a couple terrible. I especially enjoyed tick, tick, boom, and airship gemini.

This was a fun collection of 13 "steampunk romance" short stories. I was surprised by how different they were -- some definitely had more of what I would consider "steampunk" elements to them. It was fun to read all the different settings and elements -- some stories I definitely liked better than others (a few were a bit too creepy and dark for me). I think my favorite was Kiersten White's "Tick, Tick, Boom" -- I want more of that one!

There were stories I did not like but it was never dull and there are some real gems mixed in.

Not going to finish this one. What I did read was fine enough.

Although this book is all short stories; some of them seem lacking in detail. They also seem juvenially writen. I am enjoying the novel tough. It gives a twist to new and old aged romance. Incorporating technilogy into ages where you would never have seen it, and giving characters who in other books may have been 'evil' good qualities, and personalities. All in all, I'd suggest this book to people who enjoy a quick read.
