Sort of odd
I got this book along with the next three and having read it i am not sure how I feel. It's a book that I did enjoy enough to read and am curious on the continuing story, but I also kept picking it up and putting it down.
The characters are interesting, and the storyline is fun, if a little predictable at least until the very end. Perhaps a tad anti climatic and drawn out at times but nonetheless fun. Similar to Cinderella Inc or not so snow white without being Too adult. Would recommend for someone who likes a fun chicklit read

This book was so much fun! When Katie Chandler moves to New York City her family warns her that there are a lot of crazy people. But, she finds more than she had bargained for wandering the streets. She's amazed at how people completely ignore others walking around wearing wings. That is until she learns that she is the only one seeing this things. Katie is a rare person without a drop of magic. This means that she can see through all illusions to the truth. Soon she finds herself recruited by a magical company and discovers a whole new world of crazy adventures. I love the way this book used magical lore without taking it too seriously. Can't wait to read the next one!
I do not want to give less than three stars to this book, because while listening to it, I was always at least slightly interested. But in the end I must say that making magic part of the corporate world does make it rather boring.
I liked the main character, a Texan country girl who moved to New York and at first suffers from bad luck with her jobs. She then lucks out and finds a new job where her unique abilities and her good common sense are finally appreciated. That in itself is a lovely development. The new firm is developing and marketing magical spells for the magical community of New York. It is all quite businesslike, and for me that took the magic out of the magic.
PS. Ah, I nearly forgot: one thing annoyed me, namely the way the two frog guys popped right back into New York City life as if they hadn't been away. One of them was a frog for decades, so how did he fit back in so easily? How does he provide for himself?

Katie thinks she is seeing things on the streets of New York. Gargoyles that move. Women wearing wings and people with pointy ears. Being from Texas, she figures it is just normal behavior for the natives.
Plus there is her job. It is awful. Her boss is a crazy witch, and every day is a fight to go back.
Then a new job offer shows up in her inbox...

A cute chick-lit book that didn't really deliver for me. The magical aspect of the book was a nice touch, but it didn't elevate this story. Girl moves for Texas to the big city, hates her job, is constantly being set up on blind dates, and oh yeah, can see the magical denizens of the city. This gets her a job offer where she, brace yourselves, does pretty much what she did at her other job, but her helpful suggestions are actually acted upon. Of course they're amazing, she's amazing, etc. Will cute boy in R&D ever notice her? Will she be able to help save the world? Will she manage to get used to working in her magical new job? Some of these questions are answered, but since it's a series, don't expect it to completely satisfy your curiosity. Sadly, I'm not curious enough about what happens next to continue on with this series.
Side Note: I listened to the audio version of this book, and the narrator was awful. Whiny voice, trying to do a Texas accent, it was pretty bad.

This book was a super fun listen. This world was like sex in the city meets the mortal instruments with a fun twist. I really loved the main character and loved the world building that was developed. It also reminded a bit of super hero show. It was a really fun read but just such a enjoyable read. I really loved listening to it. I also really loved the main characters and will def be checking out more books in this series soon!
What great fun! Katie, small-town Texas girl, always thought NYC was weird, and then she discovers it's not weird - it's magic. As an immune, she is impervious to all spells, charms, etc. When she goes to work for MSI, the fun really begins. Just a blast! Would love to see more with these characters. 062407
Pleasant fluff if a bit light on action. Not crazy about the emphasis on business practices but otherwise not too bad. Pleasant characters if not all that compelling. For a quick summer sort of read, okay.
