I’ll admit that I was ready to fall in love with whatever Hannah Gadsby would write. That being said, I was still blown away. This book is a weighted blanket for anyone who has experienced trauma and has had to reckon with it’s aftermath.

Hannah is brilliant. Full stop.

The powerful story behind Gadsby and how her show Nanette was born.

this was a memoir that once i started, i was immediately drawn in; i was enraptured. hannah gadsby's writing is phenomenal and visceral and gets to all your tender parts--something i already knew from watching both nanette and douglas--and that's just amplified here. her voice is so strong and so present all throughout this memoir. there's a real sense of place when reading about her childhood in tasmania and then her time spent on the mainland and on the festival circuits. her words are wise and authentic, heartbreakingly sad at times, but mostly really hopeful. i really enjoyed reading this!

This was a great insight into Hannah's early upbringing and life. There was quite a bit of finessing that went into how Nanette was created, and it's really impressive. I am a new fan and this book made me want to explore all her other acts before Nannette that she mentions and walks through.

Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Brilliant!
