I listened to the audiobook while reading this which I really recommend; it really immersed me in the story.

I don't really know what to say about this book... It's really good, but also very heavy. Sadie is such an awesome character and someone you can't help but root for. The story follows her as she tries to figure out more about her sister's murder. It's told from her perspective and also from the perspective of a man doing a podcast about trying to find her after she disappears.

The ending is abrupt. It's open ended and leaves the reader to make up there mind about what happened, which I didn't love.
SpoilerAt the very least, I wanted to hear more from Sadie, even if it didn't spell out what happened between her and "Keith." Even just leading up to those last moments where she dies or doesn't. I choose to believe that Sadie is still out there working on finding her best life.

Content warning: When I say heavy, I mean heavy. There is no sunshine or happiness and it deals with adult topics. It's not super graphic, but would still be hard for a sensitve reader. Also, lots of language.

The audiobook for this one was A-MA-ZING!

I'm sure everyone has already heard of this book by now, but if you've somehow missed all the hype then I need you to know that this book is incredible. It does deal with the sensitive topic of sexual abuse, so if that's triggering for you, I would not suggest it. But, I have not been able to stop thinking about Sadie since I finished it at the beginning of the month.

This book switches between two viewpoints. One is written in a unique, podcast/interview style from the point of view of a man searching for Sadie and the other is, of course, Sadie's first-person POV. Sadie's narrative is happening in real time while the podcast follows behind and traces her footsteps, closing in on finding her and the truth with each episode.

I loved getting an in-depth look from Sadie at the things that had happened to her and her sister and understanding her motivation was easy. As she tracks down the man responsible for all the hurt in her life, she also uncovers another mystery along the way.

The writing was powerful, punchy, and unapologetic. I so appreciated Sadie's strong character and that she wasn't just some perfect, innocent girl. Of course, there would be no story if she had been. Her emotions were extremely raw and real and I was hooked from the beginning of her story.

The ending left me gutted and is also the entire reason I'm giving this one 5 stars. And that's all I'm going to say, because I truly think you have to read this book for yourself. This story is so relevant for the times and if you enjoy podcasts (especially crime related) I highly recommend this. Also, I've heard that the audiobook's narrator is fantastic, so maybe give that a go if you're into audiobooks!

What an absolutely incredible audiobook experience. Even if you've already read this book, please listen to the audiobook version as well. The different casting, the ambient sound effects, Sadie's perfect stutter are all reasons this book has entered my top 3 of the year. The subject matter is difficult, but it is a story that deserves to be told.

WOW. I literally screamed "SO GOOD" after I finished this book! It is so sad, dark and beautiful tale of what a sister would do to avenge her baby sisters horrible death.
This story is told from 2 perspectives. The first is a podcast covering a story of "a dead girl" and her missing sister and the second is that missing sister Sadie.
I HIGHLY recommend listening to this book over written form. The audio book has a full cast and has that podcast aspect you can't get from a book.
Every chapter of this book left you wanting more! I devoured this book! 5 stars!!!

This book definitely means to capture the sensation that is true crime podcasts and it delivers! The book follows a teenage girl whose younger sister is brutally murdered. Our main character, Sadie, sets out to punish her killer.

The book alternates between what seems like a transcript of a podcast and Sadie's point of view. I could not put this book down, especially during the Sadie chapters. The book deals with some tough subject matter, but it was by far the best book I've read this year.

4.5

"how do you forgive the people who are supposed to protect you? sometimes, i don't know what i miss more; everything i'd lost or everything i never had."

went through the last few chapters just sobbing my heart out. this book was a lot of things. (check TWs, please!) i think the way sadie was written made it hard for me to get out of her headspace, and it is so so very heartbreaking.

p.s. the audiobook is excellent! with a full cast (who are so good) and an actual podcast format. this was an experience

4.25 Stars. I was provided an ebook of this from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sadie has always had to be the mom to her younger sister, Mattie. Their real mom has packed up and left them and now teenage Sadie is in charge. When Mattie turns up dead, Sadie embarks on a journey of revenge and self-discovery. Told in equal parts Sadie's story as well as a radio show, the story of Sadie will have you sitting on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what happens.

This book was a very fast read for me. I started it one night before bed and ended up staying up until I finished it. I was so captured by the character of Sadie. She is not perfect, she has a lot of flaws. She was a lisp and she is shy but she is on this mission to avenge her sister. The story also has chapters that are set up as a radio show where the host interviews people from Sadie's life. Those chapters really work to fill in gaps you would otherwise miss if you only had chapters from Sadie's POV.

The only reason this is not a five star read for me is that while Sadie is out trying to figure out where to go next and what clue she needs, she seems to figure everything out a little too fast. She doesn't really run into any dead ends and that seems somewhat unbelievable. Other than that small personal reason, I though this was almost a perfect book. I loved the mystery of it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a thriller type book that they could finish pretty quickly.
