Everyone kept telling me how wonderful this book was, so of course I had to jump in and check it for myself. I wasn’t disappointed.

The eleven-year-old Tippy Chan lived in very quiet small town with her mum. While her mum went on a cruise, her uncle Pike and his new boyfriend Devon came over to look after her. Tippy was in love with Nancy Drew books, so when her teacher’s body was found beside Riverstone’s only traffic light, Tippy immediately went into mystery-solving mode with her uncle and Devon.

Tippy Chan immediately sneaked her way into my heart and stayed there. I loved her diverse background, her larger-than-life uncle, her working mother, and her relationship with her nainai (grandma)!

The storytelling in this one was so fresh and unique - I loved that we were able to read between the lines where all the adults around Tipppy did grown-up things and said unsavoury things while trying to keep Tippy’s innocence intact! I had a lot of LOL moments while reading this.

I even learned a survival skill from this book. Apparently according to Tippy, if you wore red you’d be repellent to strangers - I think I have to test this for myself!

Cheeky, heartwarming and a breath of fresh air - I, of course, immediately jumped into the next book.

Too dialogue heavy for this highly sensitive soul! Felt like I was in a crowded place full of chatter. Didn’t make it past the first chapter unfortunately.

Unfortunately I just couldn’t get into it. I will revisit it at another later date

Very high on the list for my book of the year. Not only is it funny and sly, with innuendos that made me fall about laughing, but it manages to be warm hearted without ever falling into sentimentality. I wish I had an Uncle Pike.

This book is a slump breaker! A few weeks ago I hit a bit of a low point in Lockdown & didn’t feel much like doing the things I usually enjoy. In pursuit of something to engage me & perk me up a bit, I turned to The Nancys and it was exactly what I needed.
Pick this book up and I guarantee it will lift your mood and have you racing through its pages to solve the mystery.

The Nancys is the best kind of cozy mystery, there’s fun & feelings, domestic & town life, a brilliant cast of characters & everything is such fun - despite there being a gruesome murder at the centre of the mystery!

The Nancys is littered with rapid dialogue and lots of it and there’s plenty of laughs along the way too. I was genuinely surprised by how funny this book was & how many times I laughed out loud.

I loved the witty banter & the cheeky adult jokes being thrown around over Tippy’s young head. Her Uncle Pike & his boyfriend Devon are the best and if you haven’t already read this book and discovered this pair, you definitely should!

I’ve no idea what the sequel, Nancy Business, has in store but I can’t wait to find out!

Kiwi humour mixed with gay uncles in a small country town from a young girl’s perspective! Brilliant. Cannot wait to read the second book. So much reminded me of the movie - The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

First of all, a huge apology to R.W.R McDonald for taking so long to read this! I bought this book when it came out and have finally read it. Why did I wait so long!! The Nancys is so much fun to read! I cannot wait for Nancy Business to come out later this year and I promise I will read it immediately.

Set in NZ, The Nancys is the story of 11 year old Pippy Chan, her gay uncle Pike and his partner Devon from Sydney. Pippy's mother has won a cruise so Pike and Devon have arrived in town to look after her. Her hometown of Riverstone is quiet and nothing exciting ever happens there. So when her school teacher is found murdered on the side of the road, Pippy, Pike and Devon use their love of Nancy Drew to form The Nancys and investigate the murder.

I absolutely loved Devon - the camp and flamboyant partner. So many laughs and innuendos! This is a fun and exciting read, a murder mystery with a difference. As a kid I love Nancy Drew and The Famous Five so I could relate to Pippy and her love of reading and mysteries, So much fun!
