A really outstanding work of sci-fi horror, both as a development of the existing Alien lore and a standalone story. The character work is outstanding with both protagonists being infinitely compelling.

I'm a huge fan of the first two Alien movies. The rest not so much.

This book falls into the "not so much" category. Nothing about the book is terrible, but it's nothing we haven't seen before, with the exception of a main character who is a cripple and spends most of her time piloting an android's body. You know exactly how this book is going to go from page one.

Another big issue I had with it is that the main "bad" guy was just so stereotypically bad as to be laughable. It also made him very uninteresting. Nobody in this book is good, so there isn't anyone you actually want to survive.

Anyway, as a rehash of aliens killing a bunch of humans it's alright. I'll probably forget about this book by tomorrow.

Kinda confused a little by the twist. I think it was that they were supposed to trying to weaponize the xenomorphs but it was of the trader in the building getting saved in order to save an egg to keep doing research ? Not sure

There is nothing original in this book. Please ignore the five star fandom ratings. The only deviations this book has with other Alien entries is the lack of ANY character that you actually want to survive. Also the black lesbian cripple who pilots a white male android. Seriously.... They cut out the three-legged dog with one blind eye and diabetes because then the novel would have had something you actually wanted to survive. This is pure dreck. Further, it was crass. Within the first paragraph we are subjected to a character that is the most egregious stereotype of masculinity. And the stereotypes just kept coming from that point. The author has clearly embraced a concept of gender that is wholly wrapped in the most base stereotypes one can imagine. I had 8 hours left in this audio rendition and I stopped. My time will not be wasted on this crap. I actually got a refund from Amazon. My disgust with this book is beyond.... Avoid at all costs.

One of the main characters was extremely unlikable and I couldn’t get past it. I also felt like some of the terminology took me out of the book. I did think it had some interesting concepts, but it just wasn’t a book for me.

While familiar in a lot of ways, with The Cold Forge White delivers a solid new entry in the Alien canon. And even apart from the existing franchise, the novel is a strong tale of sci-fi horror. With a cast ranging from morally gray to reprehensible characters, The Cold Forge is an exploration of survival, greed, and the line between humans and monsters. Delivered with cinematic tension and strong narrative construction, the events of the novel quickly go from bad to worse in a fast-paced and gripping fight between inner demons and the apex predators roaming in the darkness.

I like the plot once the xenomorphs are present but the general story feels dated. I know being stuck on a ship in space is what alien is about, but can't we ever have one of these books that explores a slightly different setting? Maybe another of these does have that setting so I'll keep going.
