It was really bizarre. I've been wanting to read the series for so long and now I have.
The ending was really worth the wait, and the character development left me crying.

Great conclusion to a great story. Let's start with the details, shall we?

Cole.F*ck*ng.Stewart was a FAVORITE. His friendship for Ruby was EVERYTHING. I was really worried it would end up to a love triangle between Ruby and the brothers but I was so relieved it did not! Cole had it all : development, Stewart charm, cleverness, leader skills .. and just when he got close with his brother again ... he died. Really pissed about it. I'm still in denial, I like to think he moved to Nebraska and is taking a break away from politics and murder attempts. I loved him and I lost him. Suprised? Yes. Pissed? Also yes.
Do I seek revenge for the heartache? Si.

Chubs and Vida : predictable but cute nonetheless. The did nothing really important, the just judged Ruby for every choice she did. What a wonderful way to cheer up a friend y'all, especially after her friend died and her almost-rapist requires a daily visit.

Clancy Gray can choke, f*ck him. He is the reason everything went to shit, he hurt everybody. I hope somebody murders him after he and his mom make an escape. I hope he just dies. He really succeeded his purpose : the one character I can't seem to get over with and manage to hate him more every second that passes.

The story was slow pacing but I really didn't mind. This book was all about the characters, nothing big ever happened but you just engaged with the characters, their thoughts and feelings .. great!

Ruby served once again with her ability to make tough choices. Her willingness to chose Cole over Liam for some decisions were admirable. While Liam was expecting back-up, she said and took place with her re thoughts and views. Liam eventually understood it, even tho he just seemed a little jealous (which was a bit petty once in a while) of his brother. Ruby and Liam were rocky all the way throught but the end. We only now see them as a couple, trying to get passed the i-erased-your-memory-thing and it was really interesting. But once again Liam could not be angry at Ruby after his choice. His willingness to help her overcome her panic attacks, make her understand that she is wanted and he loves her is just GOALS. Ruby managed to break the wall between them and when she did- I cried. She is just so sad the self-conscious of her powers it's killing her. Liam was there and will be there to help her love herself again while learning how not to hurt people.

The ending was enjoyable as I already mentioned. The camp escape was important and it served it's purpose.

Ruby Daly is a badass character and god forbid who breaks her heart again

So happy & content with the ending.
(Real review will be up later, need to collect thoughts on everything that happened)

Out of all the books in this series (I haven’t read The Darkest Legacy but i doubt that will change it) this one was my favorite. I loved the character of Cole and i enjoyed getting to know him independent of what Liam though of him. I was worried before starting this book that he would become the new love interest, I’m glad i wasn’t correct on that one!

I think I was used to the authors writing style by this point because i didn’t find it to be difficult to understand like i did with the other books. I was a little disappointed about the fate of on character in particular who I’m not going to name. I just felt something should have happened to them that didn’t. That’s the only criticism i can think of right now, I loved this book overall and I think it was a strong finish for the series. :)

I usually feel a little disappointed when the last book of a series or trilogy is release for they never seem to live up to my expectations, or to the prior books.
For that reason, hands down for Alexandra Bracken. Just holy crap. I needed that.
Keep writing, woman! And I´ll keep reading

The ending of the Darkest Minds Trilogy hit me like a ton of bricks, I cried real tears at the immense relief I felt for Ruby, Liam, Chubs, Zu, Vida, just everyone. Before the spoilers start I'll tell you this, if you're looking for a good end to a harrowing trilogy than this is it, the end brings a conclusion and a sense of finality and happiness, read on for the very ramble-y and probably useless spoilers!

Spoiler
I ended up giving this book five stars but that doesn't mean that it was perfect. I found a lot of it... frustrating. I can't ever fully understand what it would be like to be in Ruby's shoes with these insane powers no one understands, but the way that she wouldn't open up and let anyone help, not Liam or Vida or Chubs or anyone, it was beyond frustrating. There were many times where I had to put the book down just because I wanted to scream.

Overall I didn't find the pacing of it bad like I see most people did. I though that the first part of it may have been a tad slower but that's how it is with many books, the end is always going to be more fast paced, more insane, it's the end, the end of everything. The time at the ranch was a little.. identical, fighting with Liam, dealing with Cole and freaking out about Clancy, but overall I still liked the story. I hated the struggle between Liam and Ruby but that's only because I wanted them together and happy and that's how I find myself in most books, just wanting them together.

There were two things that shocked me, Cole's death and Clancy having control of Ruby. First off, I hated Cole's death, ti didn't feel like a good enough send off for him, there was no talk about him, nothing, no idea of what happened and I understand that's because this is from Ruby's perspective and right after he died she returned to the camp, but it still hurt to see Cole brushed away so easily after everything he had done. I did like that she used him as the driving force when she was back in the camp, the way that he was the face she saw that pushed her forward, it allowed some more of that connection to be shown. Now, Clancy's control, I really never saw that coming, that the dark moments when Ruby would wake up randomly was him, never saw that coming, but I liked it though it did frustrate me because Ruby never really talked about it with anyone, and no one ever pushed her to talk.

This review is a jumble of random things and just a place for me to get my thoughts down but if you take away one thing, take away that this was an amazing end to a harrowing journey, these kids fought and fought and in the end they ended up with a life, a life that they wanted to live, and that's all that really matters, I liked how it tied up, I mean it brought me to tears. So yea... go read!

Ehhhhhh this was very dissapointing. This book felt like a mix of Allegiant and Mockingjay (two books I hate). If it weren't for the beginning and the last 70-80 pages I'd probably give it 2 stars.

My main issues with this book is that NOTHING REALLY HAPPENED. I felt like there wasn't any plot progression at all. It was just 4-500 pages with repeting material. Ruby was making so many dumb decicions that I got so irritated at her. The romance was the typical cheesy YA romance and it was so cringing to read about. The ending was just too easy and not satisfying at all. I wanted more of a bang in the story. I was so excited to read In The Afterlight, but sadly this book did not live up to my hopes.

Holy-
When I said that this was one of the best series I've ever read, I was right, I know that for certain now.
This is the perfect ending for the series.
I must admit I'm pretty angry about Cole dying, I just would have wanted him to tell the kids he's red and at least one "normal" red to survive. I would have liked adults out of the age gap with psi abilities to be a topic. On the other hand this worked pretty well this way. Clancy, being his usual maniacal self, manipulating and getting everyone in trouble, making Ruby hate him deeply while also expecting her to support him.
Liam. I love how everything concluded. The end of their conflicts felt so natural. Real.
Grams. I cried when Ruby saw her again. Grams has been such a prominent motive in all of the books. When Ruby thinks of family and of home she thinks of Grams. She has always been everything she had left or thought she had left and just seeing a conclusion to this, finally the two of them meeting again, meeting her in real time, made me tear up.
All of the characters are just as real and well-rounded as they were in the previous books. All of them have their own motives, their own goals, aspirations and feelings.
The only thing that disappointed me is that we don't really know what happened to Sam afterwards. I love that we got closure to that part to some extent too while Ruby was back in Thurmond BUT I would have liked for them to stay in contact afterwards. To talk it out. They never had the possibility to. Just Ruby talking to all of the girls she shared a barrack with. It's the last thing that was missing for me.
Otherwise everything was closed, tackled, came to a conclusion. The story continued as before: Brilliantly developed with only elements intertwining with new ones and so very real that you nearly think yourself a part of it.

These books! I burned through them slowly, savoring them over six months, because I knew it was one I was going to have a lot of feels about getting to the end. This trilogy is gold, and I'm going to miss these characters like you wouldn't believe.

Now for this book as an individual part: I will say that it's slower than the first two. In fact, it was a little harder to pick up sometimes because it didn't have the constant motion of the first two books. I described the first two to a friend as "a dystopian X-Men on a road trip", whereas about 70% of this conclusion happens in one place where very little is in motion (and what IS happening feels a little more "tell" than show, because it happens mostly off-page). That bummed me out a little. However, I'd come to fall in love with the cast Bracken dreamed up, including a returning favorite from the first book, and everyone went through such realistic character developments over the course of the trilogy. Needless to say, there had to be some casualties, and those were heartbreaking.

Despite the slower pace, the finale was everything. The last few chapters were exactly what I had hoped for and more, and this was one of those times where I shut the book after the last page, sat there for a minute, and just breathed the word, "Wow."

That's my one-word review for the trilogy: wow!
