Darynda Jones has don’t it again.
I’m in love with Defiance, Annette, Ruthie, her dads, Ink and OMG Roane. Roane is brooding, hot, tattooed, long haired and wears a leather kilt! All of my dreams in one fictional man.
Betwixt is a must read for anyone who enjoys paranormal romance. It has all the making of a series that is almost as wonderful as the Charlie Davidson series.
Divorced and dead broke after her ex and his bitch mother stole everything that she worked for, Defiance moves from Arizona to Salem, MA to inherit a house left for her by a woman that she didn’t know. The house, affectionately known as Percival, is the one spooky house in a town full of “perfect” homes.
Having no money, Defiance knows that she can’t keep the house, but she decides to sign the paperwork with the knowledge that she has three days to cancel the agreement. At least that what she believes. In reality, the house is her and there’s no backsies.
I fell headfirst into this book from page one and devoured it. You know when you’re done with a book and wish you’d read it slower cause you didn’t want it to finish so quickly. You should have savored it? Yeah. This book.
If you haven’t read it. Go read it! It’s delicious!

I'll be honest- I saw this on my feed and it looked interesting, but reading the description I was worried it was going to be a bit of a pity party.
Thankfully this was not the case at all! This book was so dang cute and fun~

I got swept right into the story and I actually had a whole lot of fun with Defiance's character, and learning about her new possibilities in both life and magic was a great read.
There's mystery, intrigue, a new budding romance (along with a d-bag ex) and a wonderful friendship between her and her best friend Annette.
All I can say is hallelujah for strong female friendship! I think their banter was one of my favorite things.

So we get a cliffhanger ending, but ill def be picking up the next one to see where the story is going and to get to know the magical world a bit better.

Decent story with typical Darynda Jones humor. The friendship between MC Defiance and her bf Annette was fun and light hearted, reminiscent of other characters she’s written previously. Overall I think this would be a great story line, full of everything I enjoy about her writing. However it fell a little flat here for me. The story was short and so obviously it was rushed. Every plot that was introduced was wrapped up in a couple of pages.
Roane seems fascinating and sexy and we all saw his “twist” coming from a mile away.
It would have been two stars if not for my love of Darynda and the laughs I got from the book.

OK so, I’m not a stranger to Darynda Jones having made it through six (? I think?) of her Charley Davidson series. I have an honest to goodness love-hate relationship with Charley Davidson. On the one hand, she has probably got the most unique character voice/tone I have ever read - that brand of absolutely irreverent, deadpan, snarky but also downright silly and at times idiotic humour is truly one of a kind. At the same time, ok, never met any other character so stubbornly determined to be immature and thus as exasperating as Charley before. UNTIL NOW! Because Defiance is Charley! And Roane is Reyes, and Annette is Cookie - of course with the necessary differences in plot and context, but basically they are THE SAME. So what you make of Betwixt & Between will no doubt depend in large part on how you feel about the Charley Davidson series.
That said, I will cautiously say now (I’m at book 3) that I am already much preferring Betwixt & Between. I enjoy the absolutely no-holds-barred irreverent humour, how Darynda Jones and Defiance as well stubbornly refuses to take anything seriously. Except perhaps when her loved ones are threatened, which is another point in her favour! I may not be remembering Charley correctly but Defiance also felt slightly less irritating; even though she similarly stumbles around in the dark without a clue how to use her powers but still manages to pull of feats of powerful magic, she seems less determined to be ignorant or to find out how to use her powers than Charley. Of course I also enjoy a witchy story more than hellfire/angels/demons.
It also seems that Darynda Jones will be following a set structure with these books, the first 3 focused on Defiance, and the subsequent 3 focused on each of her charmling sisters. The mix of characters and structure seems to have helped in keeping the plot tight and the stories on track. All in all, I’m looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.

This was good and I enjoyed the banter but at times Defiance was a bit too immature for a forty year old. Her stubbornness and rudeness was really off-putting. I understand that there was a need to get her story out there but the info-dumping was a bit obvious. Overall though I enjoyed the storyline.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Betwixt by Darynda Jones was an interesting and sometimes humorous read. I heard great things about the author, which made me ecstatic to receive a copy of the book for review.
I liked the idea of a forty (40) year old heroine, which is a rarity in the book world. The story introduces readers to Defiance Dayne, a broke and new divorcee. However, her fortune would change when a total stranger bequeathed her a house. (If I could be so lucky.
