I didn't like this installment as much as the first 2 books in the series and figured this would probably be the last one I would read, but then that ending!! Totally unexpected, not sure I can now not read the next one!

Some magic moments, lots of darkness, starting to feel more confused than Id like re Barrons and what his deal is. Feel bad for Mac and how alone she is. Starting to skim to look for a bit of joy....
This series continues to delight me so! The world-building is expanded even more, as Mac works to become better prepared for whatever is coming. Mac's efforts to not keep all her eggs in one basket as she says, means she has to deal with a variety of people who are untrustworthy and suspicious, and it's interesting how she navigates between them. I'm pretty sure I know who I think she should trust, but it's good to see her explore her options. Especially with V'lane, the Fae prince who is much more fleshed out in this story. He's a fun character - all charm and manners, but with questionable morality and an inability to understand humans. I definitely wanted to see more of a face-off between him and Barrons!
It is funny/annoying how pretty much all the guys Mac talks to wants to know if she's sleeping with the other guy (answer: no) and like Mac, I was very much fed up with their intrusive and unwelcome comments on her private life. There's the addition of another character - Christian, who is of course very good looking, interested in Mac, and can tell when people are lying which makes Mac's life a little harder. I did like him in the beginning, but his lie detector thing was getting very annoying, very quickly. I say this though, not as a flaw in the story, but because I'm so caught up in these characters that I react to them as if they were real people! Because I'm loving these books!
The story ramps up to the All Hallow's Eve finale, which is devastating - like 200% more than I was expecting, and which really elevated this book in my opinion. The stakes are so high, and the ending is so chilling, that even the author included a little note at the end, telling her readers that things aren't as bad as they seem. Well that didn't really help my stress level, but going immediately into the fourth book did!

jericho barrons..i know what you are! ....i think! it's a toss up between the unseelie king, or the fourth unseelie prince (aka war). either way, he is unseelie! faefever ends with mac being gang raped by famine, death and pestilence AKA the 3/4s of the dark princes that came to earth during samhain. war was notably missing...war was also a theme in the visions seen when mac and jericho kissed in the cave during bloodfever. additionally, mac mentions that the princes were covered in tattoos...jericho has red and black tattoos, iirc. the claims that he is the unseelie king are supported by: (1) his ability to touch the spear and other dark hallow objects, (2) the shades/v'lane fearing him, (3) the shifting silvers in his study. i would further argue that he dead woman in his arms was/is the corpse of his human concubine who killed herself. and when not with mac, he spends his time in the realm he made for his deceased lady love
i love the growing inclusion of the sidhe-seers and the druids/mackeltars. mac clearly has a hunger to bond with her sidhe-seer sisters/make female friends, which is a refreshing change from the not-like-other-girls attitude that tends to plague urban fantasy heroines.
as usual, when one question is answered, three new ones pop up! whomst tf is the dreamy-eyed boy???? i'm beginning to think the lord master is NOT alina's murderer??? WHAT TF IS JERICHO???????????????????

I literally devoured this book in like seven hours. The other two were just okay and this one improved by leaps and bounds.
Mac still had a little bit of immaturity in the beginning. Also some of her reactions were very strange and unrealistic. She literally witnesses an entire family being murdered. Then gets up and is upset her heel broke off on her shoe. Like, priorities woman!
I was annoyed again that we still know nothing about Barron. Part of me thinks he may be the Unseelie King? But maybe I'm grasping at straws. I also became annoyed at his random violence whenever he started to feel emotions. Also his constant back and forth with Mac drove me crazy. One second you think he likes her and the next you're convinced he hates her.
V'lane was also strange in this book. He almost seemed to want to be dating Mac but it also felt like a ruse so he could use her.
I wanted to kill mac every time she thought about or did eat the Unseelie. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!?!
I honestly am not sure if both men are just using her. I mean she's human and both men are immortal. So I'm not sure how that would ever work out. I am grateful she mostly keeps her wits about her and realizes the men could be using her. She is not blinded by her desire for them.
I'm very grateful I thought ahead and checked the next book out with this one so I can jump right into it. Because boy that was one heavy cliffhanger.
