I loved this book. I have known people that lived like Maurice and now I wish I would have done more. Now if I am in those settings again I will try to open my eyes and heart a little wider....
If only there were more people like Laurie. What a very touching story.

Very inspiring

Scroff tells the story of a severely under privileged boy she meets on the street. Maurice is hungry, neglected, and the son of drug addicts who are unable to care for him. Scroff makes a huge difference in the boy's life by befriending him, feeding him, and spending time with him. She did what most people never do, she turned around when he asked her for money because he was hungry, and rather than give him money, she took him to lunch. I commend her for this. The world would be a better place if we had more people like her. Maurice is now an upstanding citizen, husband, and father and credits Scroff for his success.

The story confirms to me that there are many people in this world, who because of poverty and neglect, are destined to never climb out of their horrible lives, and the cycle continues with their children, and their children's children. I felt too much of the book focused on Schroff's life, and it was hard not to skip through those sections. I would have given the book 4 stars, but in my opinion, it was poorly written in some chapters.

Heartwarming story, really shows what a difference people can make in each other's lives.

You kind of have to push through the long-winded chapters and not-so-great writing in this one. I did enjoy the story and was fascinated by how their friendship endured through everything they went through in their individual lives.

Some have criticized her for her later actions which I thought was unfair. She's only human and she completely owns up to the fact that she should've done better by Maurice. That shows a lot of character. I also read a Goodreads comment by the author that Maurice may not be listed as an author but receives equal profits from this book.

I will say that at first, I thought this was a bit saviorish and that she was trying to make money from this story. But really, it was a story that needed to be told and it might inspire others to do good deeds.

A powerful story with some unexpected turns. The author makes herself vulnerable and her intentions are complicated, but she enriches her life in ways that most people are not open enough to experience. Maurice's story provides insight into a broader experience of suffering and oppression, while shining light on his own incredible strength and resilience. There are many beautiful lessons about love and family and breaking with class-based expectations.

What a beautiful story about life, circumstance and an unlikely chance meeting.

An Invisible Thread will ignite hope and inspiration in your heart and also bring you to tears. The improbable relationship between an eleven year old impoverished boy and a thirty-five year old New York advertising sales exec. is engagingly told in an easy and captivating pace. Sprinkled with moments from Laura’s family life and Maurice’s relatives and their lifestyles, I quickly became immersed in this story.

That chance meeting between Laura Schroff and Maurice Mazyck on that rainy September day in 1986 changed two lives at the time but it continues to change the mindset and lives of readers for generations, and probably lifetimes to come.

This beautiful story gets five teary eyed stars from this reader.

This was a quick read and an inspiring story.

Listened to this on audiobook. Their story is certainly inspirational (more than my 3 stars). This book could really have been spectacular if both of their voices were included. Perhaps alternating chapters covering the same timeline of events from his and her perspective.
