The author is a wonderful storyteller and this book increased the respect I already had for women who serve in the military.

Perhaps the easiest 5 stars I’ve ever given. This book was beyond incredible—it’s actually hard for me to put together a cohesive review. This is not my usual genre, and was my first Kristin Hannah book. I really had no idea what to expect, but I’m so glad I took a chance on this.

I admittedly know next to nothing about the Vietnam War. Knowing that Hannah did extensive research for this book, it was incredible to read an amalgamation of women’s experiences from this era put together in one book from just a few characters perspectives. I cried quite literally the entire time. This book is so powerful, difficult, beautiful, heartbreaking, heartwarming, hopeful, special…I don’t have enough words for it. I love when women!!!!!!

Even if this isn’t your typical genre, I strongly recommend reading this book. And even more strongly recommend listening to the audiobook, which was so incredibly well done. I was sucked in the entire time. This absolutely will not be my last Hannah book.

Women were few but significant in the Vietnam War and were the forgotten of the forgotten. The narrative flows with the many themes of male Vietnam vet's and the unique ones of The Women.

This book was so emotional — brought me to tears multiple times. As a granddaughter of a Vietnam Vet, I was often left contemplative of my grandfather’s service during that time. The author does an amazing job of using music, historical events, and prominent historical figures to keep you up to date with Frankie’s journey. It was easy to picture the contrasting life at home while Frankie was deep in the Vietnamese jungles. Her struggle with PTSD and addiction are written in a way that is relatable even to those who struggle without a war behind them. While Frankie finds love and loses it again and again, this isn’t the focus of the book. This book focuses on the strength of women, perseverance through war, and being forgotten.

The story of a woman who served as a nurse in Vietnam and her challenges when she returns - from love to family to addiction. I only picked this one up because it's being read in a book club that I'm in, and I am absolutely in the minority here of not enjoying this book very much. I think the story-telling in this book was great and I found myself crying multiple times. However, I just could not get over the over-arching pro-military sentiment throughout most of it.... I think it tried to challenge this theme occasionally but it did not go nearly far enough. The destruction this country caused to Vietnam is unimaginable, and this book did not touch on that nearly enough.
