This story is heart-breaking! and it also has many wisdom thoughts, which is good for young readers.
Well, just imagine a boy and his pet fox. They've both had lost someone they loved and they found each other. They're close friends, but the circumstances made the boy leave his friend. IT IS SO SAD!
and the chapters from Pax' point ofview and how he's been missing his boy. I almost cried!
The author carefully touches some important topics, such as friendship, love, lost, war and finding yourself. Both Pax and Peter learnt many life lessons by the end of the story and I hope that young readers will learn something too.
I highly recommend this story!

This was a beautifully written story of parallels - my heart was committed within the first pages. The journey of Pax and Peter back to each other, and to their own true paths, carries so much wisdom, kindness, courage, and belief.
And it is a story of war, of the cost to innocents and innocence.
This will stay on my shelf to read again.

This book was very emotional for me and definitely surprised me in a lot of ways. Overall, it was a really good read, the ending felt a little abrupt and I really wish we could have heard what Pax was thinking when he finally saw Peter, instead of only getting Peter's side of things.
While the pacing could use a little work, I very much appreciate the straightforward portrayal of anxiety, PTSD, grief, etc. in this book. Some adult readers may feel the things Peter manages to do are way beyond what a pre-teen is capable of, but I think the target audience will love his journey and find it more believable. There's a tiny hint of magical realism that I feel makes all the more unbelievable things fit into the atmosphere of the story. I liked the end, but I wish there had been just a little more, perhaps one more perspective change.
Wow. Just Wow.
I am in awe of this tale about a tame fox hand raised by a deep thinking young boy. This is the next Where the Red Fern Grows for me. It is the story of selfless love-both humans and animals exhibit it throughout the book. It is the story of loss and regret and self-punishment and penance and forgiveness. It is the story of human kindness, human frailty and human depravity. It is the story of survival and parental love and abandonment.
This is a Newbery winner if ever I have read one.

My eyes were wet by the end. Some, slow parts, lots of imagery. Fell in love with the fox.
This book was so good. I burst into tears at the end. It felt like my heart exploded. I was sad, and happy at the same time. You will find adventure, and hard life lessons in this book. If you love animals, I would recommend reading Pax. Now I need to read the sequel!
This was... pretty sad for a kids book lol. Was not expecting that
