Peter Ash meets his soulmate and kindred spirit, June, an investigative journalist. At the book’s opening June has been kidnapped by men posing as government agents but while in the car brawls with them, tases them, and escapes. She’s on the run. They meet in the treetops of the California redwoods when Peter while on walk about is chased up a tree by a supposedly extinct grizzly bear and sees a climbing rope leading up.

From that point forward it’s nonstop action as the two take the measure of each other and bond while eluding pursuers and figuring out the who, what, where, and why behind this frenzied quest. Of course it all goes back to family, greed, and an algorithm.

A strange ending with a job offer.

It’s always nice to find a great book series and Nicholas Petrie’s Peter Ash series is certainly one of the best series of books I have started in several years. Petrie created a fantastic character in Ash and through two books has demonstrated excellent plotting, writing and action. 4.5 stars and recommended for readers enjoying the vintage Jack Reacher books.

Nick Petrie writes a good book. In the same vein as Lee Child and Brad Thor's high-octane adventures, the Peter Ash follows a similar formula but has a bit more of a literary feel to them. There is some artful wordplay and some interesting character development.

Good series. I'm looking forward to the next book, "Light It Up."

A worthy successor to the increasingly lackluster Jack Reacher novels of Lee Child. Hoping for further adventures with Peter Ash!

This just didn't do it for me. Not the shoehorned romance. Not the convoluted plot. Not the female romantic interest who was both smart and capable as well as a ditz who needed constant hand holding. Pick a lane, Petrie!

Worst of all, I don't think there was enough Ash being his awesome self. I was hoping book 2 of the series would be better than book 1, but unfortunately this is the book that has made me choose to not continue the series at all.
