Trust is rarer than love. It’s putting your fate, your happiness, your life in someone’s hands. Hoping they keep it safe.

This is my first Sophie Lark book, and honestly? I liked it. Her writing was good. She knows how to write real enemies to lovers romance (and not just other romance books who consider being irritated with each other "enemies to lovers").

I liked the dynamics of the Gallo family. I liked the banter between Cal and Aida. I liked that her characters are diverse. Both the romance and the smut were good.

I can't wait to read the rest of the series and her other books.

This was a pretty typical mafia novel.  After sneaking into a party and starting a fire in the Griffin's house, Aida is told she will be marrying Callum. They are from warring families, but their marriage forms a strong alliance for the two families. The only problem is .... They hate each other.

I really loved Aida. I liked her character's growth. She ended up being pretty strong and badass.

I wish that the plot was a little more flushed out. I thought the whole plot line with Oliver was kind of pointless and the big final scene should have been against the Polish Mafia. I also found that the enemies to lovers was way too fast. One minute they hate each other, the next... Well the shower scene.

Tropes: Enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, mafia

Why haven't I read Sophie Lark before now??? I've been missing out 😞 but I love that this was my first read i 2023! Setting the standard.

This is a kinda cute book about an arranged marriage/marriage of convenience. Callum is hot af and Aida is my new favourite FMC. She's strong, smart and funny! And speaks her mind. And the writing is good. Love it.

I wouldn't call this book dark romance tho. And the prince could be more brutal, lol.

Can't wait to dive back into the life of the Griffin/Gallo, but I hope the other books in this series is darker.

The big evil guys death felt rushed. I hated Oliver guy was clinically insane. Imogene and the rest of the family had big roles in the beginning but then they kinda dissipated into like grains of salt here and there kinda forgot they existed. The first half is definitely worth it but toward the end I was kinda like hmmm not great. Overall if you want enemies to lovers go for it but as far as strong plot through and through I wouldn’t recommend.

This was my first mafia romance and I must I really enjoyed this story. I liked seeing the progression of Aida and Callum’s relationship (enemies to arranged marriage to love). I think their relationship grew in a very natural way. I think this book is great for fans of action. I’d recommend this book and I’m excited to continue on with the series!
