There are definitely some trigger warnings with this one so be sure to check those if you need to.

I don’t like books that end on a cliffhanger and you have to read book 2 to get a resolution… so this and the second book are really one book in two instalments. Not a bad hockey story and coming-to-terms-with-your-past story.

I could not have chosen a better story for my first read in the new year. Holy Hot Hockey!!! I will not soon forget this cliffhanger. It felt like game seven of the Stanley Cup and I am barely holding on. The build up was intense. My emotions were a hockey puck sliding all over the ice. I never knew what was going to happening in the pages to come.

I didn't know what to expect from Ford. I wasn't sure how I would feel about him after what he had done Hayden and Ford dirty in After Hour Lectures (published in 2023). I have to admit Ford's struggles made for great reading. Ford's journey was emotional. He must deal with decisions, with secrets and it is intense.

A chance meeting in a bar bring Ford and Emmett Cooper together. Awkward moments made for fun reading. Being in the closet, hiding is not easy for either of them. When will Ford learn that secrets can tear you apart? His struggles tore at my heart. (I didn't see that coming.)

Truths hurt. The past haunts. Love doesn't go away. Hooking the Captain is the journey of two lost souls struggling to find happiness. I can only hope as their journey continues that they can find acceptance. I will be the reader stalking the authors screaming to know what will happen in book Two.

Off the Bench Duet → Book 1
Copper ~ Ford

Cooper and Ford meet and partake in a summer fling that turns into more until secrets are revealed and change everything.

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book and I struggled with... the connection between the main characters, the jumps in the timeline, the extra drama, and more. I am hoping the second book in this duet is better.

This is the first book in the Off the Bench duet and does end in a cliffhanger. This book was absolutely amazing and I can't wait for the next one. It's an amazing hockey story about Coop and Ford and I just am so excited to see where it goes from here.
