I am not a fan of Nick Hornby's writing style. It is too colloquial for my taste. The plot is not bad, but nothing special.

There were some moments throughout this book when I thought to myself "wow, this author really gets it!" regarding depression, but then by the end of the book I felt like ... no, he gets it about as much as anyone else who isn't a trained professional might. I liked this book, especially Will's chapters, but I have to sadly say the movie was better.

I really liked this novel, told from two distinctive points-of-view, that of an adult who acts like a child, and the other from a child who acts adult-like.

This book is funny, intelligent and witty, with delightful characters, especially that of Marcus, the 12-year-old boy that cannot seem to fit in at school and ends up striking an unlikely friendship with a man old enough to be his father (except this man doesn't really like kids in the first place).

A refreshing read, written with a mix of humour and seriousness, that makes you think and smile and laugh and even cry. I loved it.
