"This is vintage king"
I'd basically have to agree. I'm a diehard for old King books and this one , albeit basically brand new, had the feel of spooky old King stories. Full of new concepts and a fresh storyline I had a hard time putting this down - you just don't know where it's going. But you want to know, bad. Which keeps one up late at night exclaiming "one more page" as the hair on the back of your neck stands up at the sheer creepiness of this amazing story.

I really enjoyed this book and was plesantly surprised (and completely terrified) by the final reveal/conclusion of this disturbing coming-of-age story. I have to say that the final two chapters of this novel may or may not cause me to have actual nightmares. Most of the book reads as a mildly creepy, mystery of sorts as we follow Jamie, the narrator, along in his recollections of his American country childhood, career as a musician, drug addiction, recovery and more important events. Throughout all of this Charlie Jacobs (pastor, scientist, madman) plays various important roles in his life, ultimately culminating with the aforementioned unexpected scene of nightmare inducing, Lovecraftian-inspired horror. Recommended.

I have enjoyed a number of Stephen King's newer books, the writing is still engrossing and drags you in, even with only moments of horror. Revival stays engaging throughout, as you get a deep taste for the subject's life and the twists and turns it takes. Just enough supernatural to keep you hooked, until the end when everything goes off the rails, just as you've been waiting for. My only complaint was with the descriptions of Nederland, Colorado, where I've lived... King nailed the mountain attitude, but missed opportunities to pull in the B&F grocery, the MountainEar newspaper, or the fact that instead of a single traffic light Nederland only sports a roundabout.

mediocre. i wonder if it’s possible for mr. king to write a story without including the n word

I really struggled through this. Somehow I remain loyal to SK even when he bores me. This was too folksy and I found the main character annoying.

When I heard that this novel managed to pay an homage, and reference both Lovecraftian imagery with Shelley -like themes, I could not begin to conceive of how such a marriage of iconic aspects of literature could come together. But in his enigmatic way, King managed just that: a book that holds a good pace and storyline in the beginning, lulls a bit through the middle, then leaves the reader with a truly nightmarish conclusion.

I am pleased to say that no aliens appear in this book!
