It's no secret that I love JVN and Queer Eye; his spectacular and vibrantly hilarious voice is all over this book. I find JVN extremely relevant, inspiring, and relatable. Raw and honest, JVN takes readers through his hardships and discusses the imperfect ways to move forward, recover, and keep on trying, living, and celebrating life.

So good. Definitely worth listening to audio version, as the author narrates.
This wasn't a particularly well-written book. JVN's endless gymnastics and figure skating analogies got a little tired. And the pacing was weird - the first chunk was overly detailed, while it felt like it got more and more rushed as it went on. I didn't get a sense for how he achieved his transformation to a healthier outlook, but it was obvious that he did. All that said, I still love the book. I happened to read it just when I needed it, and JVN's wisdom is hard-won and all the more valuable and genuine for that. He has gone through far more than I would have imagined from his on-screen persona and put himself through even more than that. It was eye-opening to see that side of someone, to see how they got to the life outlook they have now.
Great story and shines a light on the struggles of people from the LGBTQA+ community.
I just didn’t jive with the writing style.

I adore Jonathan Van Ness and Queer Eye and I love that he was brave enough to tell his raw story, that being said, you can tell that novel writing is not his strongest skill set. I would say, audiobook is the best way to go about tackling this because it's just like listening to JVN sitting down and having a chat with you about his life over coffee.
this book had some unexpected turns. the whole thing is written in the same way that JVN speaks - so obviously it was magical. unlike most autobiographies or memoirs, i finished OVER THE TOP feeling more confident in myself and my own journey toward self love, not feeling depressed that i would never get to the same level of success as JVN. this was a powerful book, and because of the tone (JVN’s wittiness), it seemed incredibly authentic (like, there’s no way in hell this was ghost written!).
