I wanted to like this so much. The concept is neat but it's written like a historical myth, characters do this and that but we're never really drawn into WHY or why we should care or how they're feeling - all emotions are just told to us.

I'm still really not sure how I feel about this one. The rating may change later, after I've thought about it some more, and I'll have a review up later since I'm about to start work.
Tentative 3 stars - RTC! Been thinking about this more and honestly, the premise was INCREDIBLE, the writing was really lovely, but this one was thoroughly ruined for me via all of the gross sexist fantasy setting tropes, so... 2-2/5 stars.

Truly a huge disappointment.
The world was cool, and the scope of plot was ambitious. But the execution left a lot to be desired... like actual writing. The entire 600 pages of the book is telling with minimal showing and it is APPALLINGLY BORING.
This book won the Hugo, the Nebula, and the World Fantasy Award? HOW?

DNF: 2/5
This is my second attempt at reading this book, but as much as Liu's silkpunk aesthetic and promises of intricacy and action appeal to me, The Grace of Kings comes off as a hodgepodge of subplots and uninteresting details that failed to capture my flighty attention. The main characters seem too contrived and frankly a bit bland; I was only to make small headway with them before calling it quits.
