Good mystery and the setting in rural Sweden is an interesting change of pace, at least for me. I already wanted to visti Sweden, but no it has definitely moved up on my bucketlist from all the wonderful descriptions. The characters are interesting, if not brilliant and I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely reading the sequel.

I enjoyed the murder mystery part, but I really despised the romance aspect. At one point, the main character talks about staying away from writing thrillers/murder mysteries because they are missing the relationships and romance and life...so these were clearly the author's thoughts. I could have done without it. It reminded me of Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite series.

I was genuinely surprised by how everything turned out. I thought a different person was going to turn out to be the murderer, but everything ended up making sense. It had some suspenseful parts, and built up well to the ending. I'm going to give the second one a chance.

I first read Läckberg's The Preacher, which is her second book in this series, so I'm out of order in reading this second; and I might re-read The Preacher now that I have a stronger character and setting foundation.

This book is a decent thriller--likable characters (I especially like Erica because she's a writer) in a small town with a jerk of a police superintendent and a lot of people with secrets to keep. The subplots are rich with potential future-book stories, and the ending was reasonably satisfying.

David Thorn reads this audiobook (he also reads The Preacher), and he does a great job--his women are not high-voiced or breathy (which male narrators sometimes default to), and his British accent weirdly makes sense as he reads these Swedish characters.

This book is a depressing read. It's set in one of those post industrial fishing town that's only being saved from dying on its feet by the fact that it's pretty, and people from "off" are coming in to buy all the nice houses.

In one of these houses a body is found. It turns out to be an emotionally withdrawn former child resident of the house. She'd moved away as a kid, but her well to do parents still own the house, so she visits when she calls in on the town at weekends.

As the book progresses, a school friend of hers is also killed. At this point, the police are all "Wait, what now? We don't have a murder in years, and now we have 2." So naturally they redouble their efforts.

So who killed the victims? You'll probably guess, as you read the book. The murderer is someone who seems like they might be "good for it", or doesn't, and you have to decide which side of that line you think he lies.

The book itself is rather depressing, with its view that most of the men of the town of the town have issues (from being lazy to... being much, much worse). So far as I can tell, only the lead detective isn't an arse to a greater, or lesser extent. This lead me to feel that at the end, some of the secondary men were interchangeable, which is never a good sign for a story.

Menuda trama! tantos puntos de vista y tantos misterios.
He acertado con que Julia era hija de Alex y que Nils sería el padre, peeero no averigüé quien era el asesino. Me sorprendió de verdad! Me ha encantado
