Ann Rule knew Ted Bundy. She considered him a friend.
The insights she has on Bundy and the trials are unique to her because of her relationship to Bundy. She writes without giving Bundy sympathy and while giving the victims the respect and grief they deserved.
Definitely worth the read if you're into learning about true crime.
FYI - If you're a Bundy 'fan,' then you can fuck right off <3

I want to apologize to this book. I feel like saying "it isnt you, it's me".
But then again... lord, that book was SO static ! How do you turn a high-profile case, a close relationship with a dangerous serial killer and several crazy jail breaks to a book that makes you feel like nothing is happening ?
Im sorry because this book has such a good rating, it was recommended to me by several people, and yet I just couldnt finish it. It took me 20 days to read a measly 287 pages. A 600-pager shouldnt last me more than a week. Nearly a month after starting this one I was barely past the halfway point.
So... yeah, sorry. This one isnt for me I guess.

DNF at 60%. I tried y’all, like I really tried. This book gave me the ick. I don’t understand how it is so highly rated unless you’re in love with Ted Bundy, as we clearly see…Ann Rule is. This in so many ways felt like a long love letter to someone she wished was not who he actually was.
Unfortunately, for poor Ann, Ted Bundy is a horrible, horrible man.

Good because it’s a good story
Ted Bundy is a macabre and fascinating character with a totally enthralling story. The mystery and thrill and suspense in this book just exists because of what he story itself is. Rule is a good enough writer, but the book is SO long winded and I honestly had to force myself through all the added chapters because she just can’t stop talking about herself and her thoughts. The idea that she would have been writing this book before she anyone knew it was Bundy is absolutely unbelievable and makes for a great story, but half of it reads like a stream of consciousness.

If you like true crime books, worth the read. A little long at the end, but overall, pretty good read.
