Miss Marple is feeling a bit tired in this one and it seems her inventor might be as well. Naturally I still found it entertaining, but there was a lot of plodding around trying to figure out who exactly the murder victim was, and the resolution was rather unsatisfying and out of left field.

Was on a Agatha Christie binge when I read this and I enjoyed it, however after reading 2 Poirot’s this month I’ve got to say I prefer them to Miss Marple. Don’t get me wrong I loved the story I just found it slow and I got bored at times, I enjoyed the storyline that the murder was on a train. I am willing to give Marple another go this year.
This book had a very exciting start and I was hooked, but it did lag in the middle when we are introduced to so many negative and boring characters. I loved Lucy and how Miss Marple includes her into this story and she quickly became a favorite of mine. I'd never actually read a Miss Marple tale and it's funny because she was barely in this book at all, rather she was the mastermind behind the scenes.
I kept trying to guess throughout this novel who the real culprit was and personally felt i had a very good handle on who it would be and yet I was wrong again, curses! I did find that the reveal to be a bit underwhelming and not make complete sense, but it was honestly just a fun enough and short romp that I didn't care much either way. I really love Agatha Christie and will continue to read her books for sure!

I haven’t read or even watched any Agatha Christie for many years and now feel I have been missing out. This was read by Joan Hickson who is the perfect narrator and this fitted the term cosy mystery perfectly. There is none of the gore that often puts me off modern crime novels and it is of course a very clever story. Not only that but the female characters are strong and resilient and the descriptions of a bygone age with station porters and traditional British food definitely transported me to that time. I am looking forward to catching up and reading many more….
