I did not find this one as strong as the first two, though I still enjoyed it. The first half was gripping, the middle sagged, and the last quarter or so was wonderfully fast paced and exciting. I am looking forward to the fourth, and hoping to find it a bit stronger.

2023 reread: Boy, it really hits the fan in this book, doesn't it? I enjoy how crazy things get in this part of the story. I also love that we're really getting some of King's signature creeeepy stuff happening. That stinking train and tick-tock man is... **shudders**

Good series. If you like the first one you’ll love the rest.

It’s like Clint Eastwood in a spaghetti western crossed with a Lord of the Rings adventure through a post nuclear apocalypse world in the very distant future with mutants, time traveling and black magic.

My favorite of the three I've read so far. In this volume, King realizes much of the potential of Roland's world as he unfurls more of the quest for the Dark Tower. A lot of Tolkien's influence comes through (especially with riddles) and it leaves you very interested in continuing on the quest with Roland and company. I'm glad I don't have to wait six years to find out what happens next!

I liked this one better than book 2! There were some very exciting parts, horror, and a couple new characters. This might be my favorite so far actually. The plot thickens!

Very good, aside from teenage romance. Ugh.
