Flirty, fun and sweet!

I absolutely loved Flirting With 40! Light and easy to read, I quickly fell for Slade. And all things related to the retreat - hilarious and steamy and I wanted more.

As an older woman in her 40s myself, the whole younger man story is one that I definitely relate to, and so I was very excited to see this one being written by one of my favorite authors. While Bromberg is probably known best for her really angsty dramatic romances, she is definitely great at a sweet, light romantic comedy like this as well. I sped through this one, loving every bit of it!

Even though I’m actually what you’d call “flirting with 50”, I could totally feel all the different things that Blakely was going through. There is so much dealing with those who are younger, coming into any career field and never knowing if they’re going to be someone you can work with, or if they will be someone who might steal your job away. I try to take on the role of a partner, teammate, as often as possible. I mean there were times when I was still a teacher and a brand new one came in and I was just wowed by how awesome they were, and I wished I had been that good when I started, sometimes even wished I was that good at the time!

It is totally understandable why Blakely had a bit of issue believing that Slade could actually be interested in her. Especially with all the usual naysayers in her life doing their best to break her down, and discourage her in every way. But I like how he worked to bring her out of it. He knew all the ways to push her, and even though he was dealing with his own issues, he was there for her.

His story was a very good one, one that had me really feeling for him and hoping that he’d get his evidence he needed sooner rather than later.

Now the big misunderstanding towards the end was a little bit close to that thing that I often mention bugging me how someone won’t listen when they decide something is wrong. But I did like how this fake relationship turned real, and that there didn’t necessarily have to be the big revelation of it as fake as the final disaster or drama.

Another great read from Bromberg!

OMG of America! I needed this book right now. I appreciate the real feelings and the nerves about being older. I loved Slade and hope I find my own Slade one day, too!

What a fun age gap read! Blakely was so darn feisty and combative. It made for a really funny sequence of exchanges between her and Slade in the beginning. Their plan to play pretend and cross items off a to-do list was an obvious set up for disaster and I loved every minute of it.

Slade was such a fun loving, genuine and kind man. His back story was sweet and his current professional predicaments proved what a good heart he had. I loved the side of Blakely that he brought out, constantly reminding her of her worth. No matter how down on herself she was, he was always there to life her up and force her to see herself in a different light. And he did it all while being super sexy and overly confident in the most non threatening way. He was the total package!

This book had me laughing from beginning to end. I loved how the book flowed so well. It wasn't overly deep with emotion. The characters were pretty simple with not a lot of drama (aside from Blakely's ex husband). It was an easy, light read that I finished rather quickly.

I truly feel that Flirting with 40 is K. Bromberg’s BEST work to date! This book has put a smile on my face which is just what I needed after such a crazy year! Slade and Blakely’s age gap/fake romance kept me intrigued from the first page and I just could not put this book down. A woman who needs to find her voice and a man who knows what he wants? Yes, PLEASE! Flirting with 40 is a fun, sexy, and swoon-worthy read and will make your heart happy!

Where can I find myself a Slade?!? Seriously, he is supportive, selfless and caring and swoony. The perfect book boyfriend! Flirting with 40 is a fun age gap romance about finding yourself and gaining confidence back in who you are as a person.

Blakely is recently divorced, she has lost herself, she is dealing with a coworker who is a complete jerk. She has had a long day, she is just trying to wind down at a bar when a man sits next to her and doesn’t take the hint that she doesn’t want the company. Slade is going through a rough patch with his career as a surgeon and has a little extra free time. From the moment Blakely and Slade meet at the bar there is a connection between them, however, Blakely is afraid of their age difference and she lacks some confidence in herself. Slade is confident, charming, sweet and supportive.

I loved the banter between Blakely and Slade. I loved the chemistry between them. There is just so much to love about these two. There is just so much to love about the two of them. Their relationship was effortless, it was fun and there were so many times throughout the story you can just see how perfect they are for each other.

Flirting with 40 is a fun MUST READ that will have you swooning from the very first page to the very last.

Wimpy Female Lead

I was so excited to read this, older woman and a little younger man. But boy did Blakey disappoint. I can’t say that I liked her at all. All her whining about her age, and “ oh Slade, I can’t understand how you can like me...the age difference.” There was a whole whopping 8 years. Wow. I wanted to smack her upside the head. I liked Slade. He kept trying to build Blakey up but all she did was whine. I wish we could have gotten more on him. Overall it was just ok.

This is an ARC review. All opinions are solely my own.

Flirting With 40 by K. Bromberg was almost everything I was expecting. K. Bromberg knows how to write about real women and their insecurities. She did not disappoint.

Blakely is a woman of a certain age. She is still reeling from her divorce and dealing with a younger and more hip workplace. A workplace that she has more than proven herself in just not to these younger executives. Slade is an early 30's cardiothoracic fellow. He might be getting fired but in the present he's on a hospital forced sabbatical. The pair meet at a bar, she tries to give him the slip but he finds her anyway. They go to a nature retreat team building experience that was planned by her younger arch nemesis, hijinks ensue.

I love these authors that are embracing women in their 40's as main characters. I would like more books that are about women like me.

What I didn't really vibe with was I felt like Slade was not fully honest about who he was. I'm a reader of a certain age and that would be a red flag for me. But that didn't cloud my love of this story.

K. Bromberg has the recipe to light, entertaining reads. I will always find her books when I need a lovely distraction. Even more so if she's writing about my age demographic.
