From the moment TJR announced this book, I told myself I wasn't going to pick it up. Honestly, space intimidates me more than it interests me, and I knew I wouldn't be able to follow if the language was too technical.

But, of course, after seeing so many rave reviews, curiosity got the best of me and I knew I had to give it a chance. Though this isn't a new favourite, like so many of my peers in the book community have declared, I enjoyed it much more than I ever thought I would. I found that the first half of the book was slow, but the pacing picked up in the second half as new relationships were introduced and I found I enjoyed it much more from that point on. I had no idea the book was sapphic and thought that relationship was portrayed well. Barbara and Daniel are terrible parents, but Vanessa and Joan were great. Can't wait to see what TJR comes up with next!

This was an absolute masterpiece!! TJR has outdone herself! It was sad and emotional, but full of so much love and wisdom! I highly recommend!!

I’m sobbing. Literal, wracking sobs. And that’s not a spoiler by any means. This book was an emotional roller coaster, in the best way possible. I cry over books a lot, but this one just got into my core and ripped my emotions apart. So yes, I’m sobbing over fictional characters right now, and I love it SO MUCH.

It would probably be more accurate to say this book is a historical queer romance with literary background  about women first times in space.
A good amount of the book was devoted to the MFC relationship with her niece and her 'found family' at work, in particularly with another female astronaut in the same training group (who eventually becomes her lover).

If you are only here for the space tale you might be slightly disappointed as I didn't feel there are enough of it in comparison to the other aspects of the story.

Based on the premise, I wasn't sure about this one at first, but I'm so glad I took a chance! The beginning immediately grabbed my attention. The science was interesting, but the sisters' relationship and the developing romance were too. As the characters faced challenges, I found myself remembering what things were like back in that time period. I would have loved to hear more about the secondary characters' stories and an author's note would have been great (if there is one, it wasn't included in the audiobook).
