"I wonder why it is that we fall in love with some people and not others, even when we wish we could. Billions of humans, all of us scurrying around the planet, falling in and out of love with each other for no reason explicable by logic or numbers or common sense. How unaccountably strange we are."
Josie Silver did it again. Did what, exactly? She wrote a novel that broke my heart and helped pick up the pieces page by page.

Overall I love this type of story. I could picture it being a movie for sure. The last 1/4 felt kind of fluffy to me, compared to the heaviness of the first 3/4. And I definitely expected a totally different ending most of the time, but the one that happened was also very predictable. I could have done without the random trip to Croatia; I felt like it didn’t serve much of a purpose and was a forced “enlightened” moment for the protagonist. Pros: good, romantic, sad story; great emotion-driven writing; realistic dialogue. Cons: slower toward the end; ending’s tone didn’t match the rest of the book; wanted more in final 1/4.
What a great read. A book about love, loss, and finding love after loss. I related so much to the main character Lydia and by the end of the book my heart was so full. This is just the read I needed in my life, really helps me believe in love and good things again. Easily will be one of my favorite reads this year, I already know that.
3.5 stars!
Not quite as good as her last but perfect for a quick and sappy romantic read.
I loved the interesting and well-developed cast of characters. The romance punctuated by deep grief really made this one a little more punchy than similar works.

Loved, loved, loved this! Such a beautiful journey into the various nuances of grieving for the loss of your loved one. Lydia’s story is just heartbreaking after losing the love of her in a crash and through some miracle she’s able to see what her life would have been like if Freddie hadn’t died. But Freddie’s death didn’t just affect Lydia, it also affected the others in her life, and in both ‘realities’ (or universes as Lydia calls them) you get to see just how different all their lives are.

3.5 stars! I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but I appreciated that it wasn’t your typical romance novel. I thought I could guess where the book was going but then I didn’t. I loved how kris was there for a short time in her life but wasn’t her forever. And I loved how she went to Croatia and did what she wanted with her life bc it suited her.
Lydia Bird’s plans for her fast-approaching wedding are shattered when her fiancé, Freddie, dies unexpectedly. During the day, she goes through the motions, struggling to grasp the reality of Freddie being gone, and at night she takes sleeping pills sleep soundly. In her dreams, Freddie is still alive, and her life with him continues as they planned. Lydia much prefers the world in which the love of her life is still within reach, but when her actual reality begins to conflict with that of her dreams, Lydia must make a decision about letting go of Freddie for good in order to move on with her life.
I loved One Day in December and pre-ordered this one right away. It took me a bit to get into—I struggled to see where it was going, but eventually it picked up. I loved Lydia and Freddie’s love for each other, so of course the book was heart-breaking at times. I also felt Lydia had some profound learning moments that made me pause and think toward the end, and that is something I always appreciate in a book. This one is relatable for anyone who has ever had love and lost it.
