This is book which oscillated between like and dislike for me. It depicts the grieving process and person well. If you need to support someone who is grieving, you could read it to understand them better. But don't read it if you are actually grieving. It's may take you too far back. It's less hopeful and more intent on depicting that state. It will brings tears and underlying fears. The overall idea is kind of farfetched and kind of promotes hallucinations.
It's too big, could have been crisper and after a while it drags on. And yet one wants to complete it. There are some good bits and then lots of plainness.

I thought this book was OK but not amazing. It flicks between Lydia’s two lives, when she’s awake and when she’s asleep. The sleep parts were portrayed as more than a dream and more like an alternate reality. I didn’t really like this and felt it took away part of the story.
I really liked the relationship between Lydia and Jonah and felt that this was the strongest part of the story. It really showed how different people can react to death and grief in different ways. That was the most powerful thing about this book.

I wanted to rate this book higher as I absolutely loved the ending and the idea of the book. I did struggle though with Lydia's second life and found it hard to have the same belief in it that she did. I also loved the part when she chooses to go on holiday and wish that this had been described in more detail than it was.
I truly enjoyed this book. I truly felt each step of Lydia’s development through her grief. It was so amazing and honestly unexpectedly so romantic.

Woof. What did I just read? I loved One Day in December, but this was truly unbearable.
