3.5 stars. This book was very emotional. I cried uncontrollably through the first twenty pages. Reading about Lydia dealing with the loss of Freddie was really hard for me.

I don’t love the direction this took though. I guessed right from the beginning that eventually she’d end up with Freddie’s best friend, Jonah. I didn’t like the idea of that, but figured I’d see how it happened and if it worked or not for me. Overall, I liked them together at the end. However, I honestly don’t think the author touched on the guilt that would have been associated with them moving on together as a couple. I didn’t really find that realistic that it wouldn’t even have been mentioned.

I also didn’t really like how the author gave Freddie and Lydia a bunch of issues in the dream world. It seemed like she was trying to make him unlikeable to make the reader okay with Lydia and Jonah.

Also, things kinda went off the rails for me when Lydia delivered Elle’s baby by herself with no issues??? And then ran away to Croatia and just happened to find that couple that let her live in the apartment above their restaurant and work for them ???

I liked the ending. I just would have liked it to be stretched out a bit more and not so rushed.
emotional hopeful slow-paced

Nice ploddy story. Good to listen to in the background. Not full of any love twists or anything though.

a horrendously sad start but a good foray into grieving and growing

i would argue with the tag of it being romance book since there really wasn’t much romance at all. i found it pretty clear from almost the start that jonah loved lydia and that they’d end up, though she did have me when kris came into the picture and i began to doubt myself, but i just wish we could’ve seen more of her realizing she wanted jonah.

there were the nightly skype sessions over several months and of course their history together, but to just throw the ‘i couldn’t be with someone who didn’t know him’ line out and seemingly decide that’s why she wanted to date jonah is weird.

Star Rating:: 3.5 Stars

3.5 stars round up to 4 stars. Overall, its a cute, fun read. I can see why so many people adore this book. I liked it too, I'm just a little disappointed.

I can't really say there is anything I necessarily I dislike about this book, its just more I wished there was more to it. My issues are mainly light spoilers, but I don't want to ruin anything for anyone!

Spoiler
Lydia Bird is shockingly immature, and its takes her AGES to grow up. I tried to not be so judgmental, but I wish she grew spine a little sooner.

I wish Josie Silver gave us more of Jonas Jones (which is basically a knock off Marvel superhero name) and Lydia developing a relationship. Its basically they build a relationship via Skype but we never actually see it. I was happy to see them get together, but it would have been nice to see it build up.

Not to mention "I can't be with someone who doesn't know Freddie, so you're it!" is a super shitty way to try to start a relationship.

LOVED this! I thought it was going to be a weird love triangle but how wonderfully I was surprised! Definitely a story I shall read again.
