A Lesson in Thorns

Sierra Simone

3.75 AVERAGE

This book promised a lot that I don't feel it delivered on, but maybe the 2nd book will be better.

2.5 ⭐
I love Sierra Simone's writing style and the way she intertwines religion and sex. I find it fascinating. Every time I read a book by her I seriously learn new things and I am able to see both religion and sex from a different perspective, which is so interesting to me and I appreciate that very much.

With all that being said, the whole story in A Lesson in Thorns wasn't very interesting. The characters were kinda... idk... strange? Maybe? I didn't really sympathize with any of them. Maybe with Saint... just a little. Maybe because he was the outsider. I still wanna know what's the origin of the feud between Saint and Auden, so I will keep reading.

Sierra Simone does it again. A Lesson in Thorns follows Poe who wants to find out What happened to her mother but we already know things never go as planned. It's dark, spicy, twisted and addicting. Once I started I just couldn't put it down and can't wait to pick up book 2 in the series Feast of Sparks.

AHHHHHHHH. I fear I’ll be screaming about this book for the foreseeable future. Holy shit this is so good!!!

Dark, mysterious, alluring, ominous, sexy. Literally all of the things I love wrapped in one book. Six people connected to each other through ties even they don’t understand. A well of grief and longing and an aching desire to love and be loved that runs deep into their cores. A grand manor with history and secrets, trapped in its own little antiquated bubble in a forgotten past, that leave its inhabitants with more questions than answers.

It’s no wonder I ate this up. Sierra weaves yet another deliciously sensual and emotionally layered story here, sucking you in immediately. I can feel the temptation, the yearning, the awakening that our little band of misfits sift through so viscerally. Hot hot hot HOT.

Book two was downloaded immediately.

This was not at all what I expected but to be fair I am not even sure what I expected other than for it to be amazing, which IT IS.

It was so beautifully strange and dark and filled with otherworldly magic and mystery but also sweet and endearing and sensual all at once. I think that Sierra is magic herself because these stories she weaves are nothing short of brilliant.

12 summer’s ago the parents of 6 children came together at Thornchapel and something happened. The children dream about it vividly and the parents refuse to speak about it. However, this summer the children find themselves once again at Thornchapel surrounded by secrets of the past.

The writing is beautiful and poetic. It invites you to become immersed in the story where even historic English country side manors are like characters themselves. Where ancient Celtic rituals were once observed and still call to those on the grounds. It’s a world filled with angst, wanting, and mystery.

It was a fantastic read and I am so excited for book 2. If you enjoy mysterious intricate plots with some kink and polyamory - then I absolutely recommend this book.
