3.5/5. The imagery in this book was beautiful especially in the vineyard scenes. I wasn't really a fan of the subplot regarding Georgia's fiance. Overall, I felt that the book was missing a certain something.

I think maybe I’m just not the right audience for this book. Despite the author’s attempts to show compromise and happiness at the end, it still felt like it was glorifying putting family/roots/longevity/etc before essential sense of self. And I’m just not here for that. I do like that they showed relationships as nuanced, many-layered things, but I feel like everything still landed in the lap of the women to figure out and handle - a narrative I’m very much over. If I had read this two years into my first marriage, I probably would have loved it.

I happen to be a sucker for a sweet Hallmark movie (not to be confused with Lifetime movies!) and reading Eight Hundred Grapes was exactly like reading a Hallmark movie! This has been optioned to be made into a movie, so we'll see if it is ever made.

Anyway, this is a quick read that was far more believable than one would expect from this kind of story. I enjoyed it. It was "Fluff Plus."

Such a happy book! I finished it in one day—it was too compelling to put down. I liked the way half the story was present day and half was a series of flashbacks that worked towards the ending. I predicted the end, but the plot took just enough turns to make that okay. I did like the main character and could relate to her inability to see where she wants to go in her life, and I also liked the different ways we learn about and are challenged by love. Sweet story :)

Georgia grew up on a vineyard in Sonoma Hills and as soon as she was able, fled to the city. This story starts with her once again fleeing her life, dressed in her wedding gown and arriving back to the vineyard. A week before her wedding she discovered her fiancée was keeping a secret from her. When she arrived home she quickly discovered her husband wasn’t the only one hiding the truth.

As her and her family work through resolving all the secrets and the trouble that goes with them, Georgia started to reevaluate her own life and happiness.

I enjoyed moments of this book, but definitely found myself frustrated with the character and her indecisiveness, as well as some of the strange situations the other characters found themselves in also. Didn’t pair well for me.
