well i liked the other two novels so how could I not enjoy the same principle but condensed into 13 short stories.

Especially the speckled band and the beginners thumb were amazing. It’s actually quite impressive how Doyle manages to write short stories in a way where you feel like you got the plot of a novella or a novel without it feeling rushed.

Looking forward to the memoirs of Sherlock Holmes now :)

I hadn't read any of the Sherlock Holmes short stories since I was a kid. I wasn't sure what to expect now as an adult but they turned out to still be quite enjoyable. Holmes is not a very likable character and I found Watson's awestruck attitude a little tiresome but it managed to stick to a good balance of making Holmes impressive yet not quite perfect.

The stories themselves were somewhat predictable but interesting and short enough to keep my attention. I was worried about how the themes have aged but Holmes keeps enough of an air of mystery about his beliefs that he comes across as quite progressive for his time.

I didn't find any individual stories standing out as exceptionally good or particularly bad. In fact, the collection is uncommonly consistent in its quality.
