Set of stories from the far future when only the dogs are around, with robots, telling stories and myths about the early days of dogs and legendary humans. It does have a lot of the zing of early asimov stories, and classic 50s/60s sci-fi. I think they've aged reasonably well, though they still have that 70 year old ring about them.

I couldn't help but think of Asimov's robot series while reading this book. The scope of the stories, some of the themes and wiring style are very similar. But unlike Asimov's series, City is a much more pessimistic book, more online with Bish's Cities in Flight.

I highly recommend for fans of Golden Age sci-fi and fans of Asimov.

Pleasant, thought-provoking. It does not feel that outdated, strangely.

An ambitious set of linked short stories tracking the story of Earth thousands and thousands of years into the future. I like the whimsy of Simak, his funny robots, dogs, ants, and mutants. The science is obviously mad and unrealistic but that in itself is quite interesting. I did prefer the simplicity of the other Simak book I read over this as a reading experience, but writing this in the 40s this would have been wild to read.

This book's fun but not great literature. The writing style has similarities to Asimov, but not in good ways - more in the fact that the characters are very thinly written. The science fiction doesn't really have much science to it, and follows a trend I've seen in old sci-fi where things like psychology or history or philosophy are imagined to become full-on STEM-based engineering disciplines in the future. But aside from those points, the story is interesting and psychedelic in a way. I mostly read it because I heard it involved dogs, but the dogs weren't even that cute. Fun, but not amazing.
