Platform Seven is part of Peterborough Railway Station and in 18 months it's where two people have lost their lives by falling in front of express trains. One of those people is Lisa, who is also our narrator. She is a ghost who lingers around the station, observing people as they come and go and gradually remembering elements of her life, the emotionally abusive relationship that she was in and the way it led to her death.
This is an unusual book. A large part of it is about Lisa's relationship with the handsome doctor who is extremely controlling and belittling but it's also about the people who were peripherally affected by the two deaths at the station. It truly is the kind of book that gets you looking at the world a little differently and thinking about what is going on in the lives of people you pass in the street. However I found the ending more melancholy, less satisfying than I hoped.

Story was boring and slow, FMC had weird internalised misogyny that was incredibly off putting.
Graphic: Suicide, Suicide attempt
I liked the concept of this story, it was cleverly written but I felt there was a lot of unnecessary parts to it that perhaps it didn’t need so it felt quite long winded
A good read with satisfying ending. Excellent build up of tension and gradual unveiling of the plot. I thought the ghost element worked well and was an unusual and clever storytelling device. Had only read one of this author’s books before but will be keen to try some of her other books.
This was far from an easy read but it was a emersive story. About sucide and mental abuse. Made me feel uncomfortable and angry but I couldn't stop reading it. I'm glad I gave Louise Doughty another go.
This book has been classified wrong. It is not a horror book or a thriller book. This book is about regret and learning to come to terms with it. Paranormal aspects run through it, and the ideas of domestic abuse, suicide and pedophila are major plot elements. There is a definite strong stance taken on these issues. This book needed editing. Elements of the story that intrigued me weren’t developed enough, while others had too much time devoted to them. I would read from this author again. This story will leave you feeling sad. I hope the world is not as bleak as the story conveys.
TW: Suicide, abuse, gaslighting
This book was very different than I thought it would be, and it hurt my enjoyment of it a bit. From the premise, I thought it would be a bit more of a thriller than it ended up being, and the story went in a very different direction than I expected.
I had trouble getting through this book, it was very slow and even boring at times. In the end, I can appreciate it for what it is, but it wasn't the best reading experience for me.
Go into this with an open mind, the plot is very meandering and not very focused, but if you don't mind that it might be something you like. Take the trigger warnings into account, this is not a book I would recommend to just anyone.
