For what it is, effective in diagnosing opportunities to implement strengths and identify areas to grow. Only relevant to your strengths or looking up how to work with teammates' strengths- and taking the StrengthsFinder. More of a reference tool than a novel.
This was a good book that did a great job of explaining itself and its concept. I took the quiz and was a bit surprised by some of my "strengths," but they did explain me pretty well.
This was informative, had a nice narrative in parts and is helpful for honing in on your skills. It is definitely the funnest text book I've read and I'm glad that I own it because it is definitely one I see myself coming back to and skimming.
Disclaimer: Read the intro, skimmed my sections.
Got this book from my mom for Christmas. She was very excited about it.
Complaint 1: The book feels like a scam. The entire book is an advertisement for on online quiz that requires purchasing of a unique book copy to take.
Complaint 2: The book feels like astrology. On the plus side, the quiz picked out appropriate sounding categories. On the other hand, this wasn't too hard. I'm a grad student in computer science; hearing that my strengths focus around learning and the future isn't terribly surprising. But the chapters associated with each strength just feels like they're supposed to make you feel good, and don't have much concrete advice.
Complaint 3: Despite all the talk of how many "profiles" they've "analyzed", this just doesn't seem to be scientific at all. The quiz was kind of hilarious, though, with likert scales that made no sense ("I feel good about life" vs "I am a competent person").
Oy. Sorry mom!

informative
I really enjoyed this approach something positive to build on instead of all the negative things you need to fix. I am a little curious how much bias may effect results- for example if you see yourself one way but maybe it's less prominent than you think. That being said I don't disagree with the strengths that were provided and I liked the reference as to how to build and how to work with others.

Did this test years ago, and still use this to help guide the types of projects I take on.
I bought this book used & like some reviewers did not have the code to take the test. I did some research & found high5test.com for free that was supposedly similar to the test results of strengthsfinder. Some of the “attributes” I was given didn’t have the same exact name in the book, but it was easy to find a replacement. For example: I got “philomath” from high5test, and used “learner” in the strengthsfinde book instead. I think it would be a great book to have if you are job searching or trying to find career direction as it would help you find your strengths and how to apply them.
I like what one of my co-workers said about this, he sceptically took the test and was surprised by the results. I felt the same way. When I read my top five strengths and the examples it was clear that the test was pretty accurate. I read all 34 of the strengths and there are a few I think should be on my top five instead but the five I got were so close to describing me that I would image my top ten would have all the traits I feel were missing. My wife took the test and her top five were her to a tee. They have a youth version we will be having our kids take. That should be pretty enlightening. It will be interesting to try to incorporating this into our homeschooling curriculum.
A mandatory book to read in my company and I’m glad it is. Very insightful and has definitely helped me understand myself and my colleagues better
