If it weren’t for how the relationship between Joe and Natalie was portrayed, I would have given this book 5 stars. I absolutely HATE it when books try to make pedophiles sympathetic. I feel that portraying a 38-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl as being “in love” and having him confess his love for her at the end is sending a very dangerous message to young girls (who are the target audience for this book). I really, really hope that no teenager starts to believe that a relationship between an adult and a minor is remotely okay after reading this book.

This book was pretty heartbreaking, but ultimately satisfying.

“If there even is a God, why the hell would He want me on His side? I'm the reason He flooded the earth before Noah's ark.”

description

This is a compelling story, but it is not appropriate for 14 and up as it was promoted. While I know that going through rehab, and being an addict, is hard and dirty...but some of he sexual descriptions are beyond what I am comfortable with seeing in something billed as YA.

Character-driven with a huge helping of 'earn your happy endings'!

I liked that Nat wasn't a perfect or sometimes even likable character. She does stupid, selfish, immature things. Which is apt, because this is a book about addiction. It's rare that an author has the courage to write a realistic addict rather than trying to justify their addiction. That for me was the most significant part of the book.

I loved this book! It's a very deep book that can be triggering to some, but I love seeing books deal with such serious things! The twist in this book was crazy.

Truly I felt like the writing was a bit sloppy, but the story line and the meaning behind it was too great to pass up. I would say it is probably on the verge of being a rated R book, so do not let certain aged children read this.
