I flew through this. It was so easy to get lost in. I love the world that Veronica created for this story and for these characters. I don't know if i liked this one or CTM more... I think this one was faster and had more action, but CTM had more depth. THAT PLOT TWIST. I did not see that coming. I mean, wow. I liked that we had Cisi and Eijeh's POVs, especially Eijeh's. It was so interesting to see in his mind where part of Ryzek lived. I was surprised how fast Ryzek was killed. Cyra and Akos are everything. I hated when Akos left and then they were apart for most of the book, but the ending was perfect. I think Veronica did a good job at wrapping it up.

Wow. I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. The first book was okay, but I didn't know if I'd spend time reading any more (I really hate leaving books unfinished even if I don't like it). This book is told in Akos, Cyra's, Cici' and Eijah's point of views. And it seems a bit odd that Akos's is the only one that is told in third person. I watched a facebook video with Veronia Roth and understand why she did it that, it was just a bit unusual.

This book dives more into politics, and war I think than I remember the first one being. There's attacks from both sides, Shotet and Thuve. I didn't turn out to like Cici as much as I did at first, she seemed to controlling through she pretended to "only be in the background" of things. Akos was a bit too broody, but again I understand his plight. There are plenty of surprises in the book that I don't want to give away, and I enjoyed the ending. Again I don't know how much I can really say without ruining anything.

All in all this was a great book. I did pick up Roth's newest book The Chosen Ones and after reading this book it made more confident that I'll probably enjoy the Chosen Ones, even though it has nothing to with Carve the Mark, or the Fates Divide. I tend to generally like Roth's work though, so it's not a huge surprise for me.

I really struggled to get through this one. [b:Carve the Mark|30117284|Carve the Mark (Carve the Mark, #1)|Veronica Roth|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1462467867s/30117284.jpg|44736077] was the same way at the beginning, but then I really got into it. This one seemed promising in the first chapter, but then it just didn't hold my attention. I think one of my problems was that it had been around a year since I read the first book, and I couldn't remember all the characters. Usually it comes back to me as I read the sequel, but this one it didn't. I think Roth could have done a better job of jogging the reader's memory about what happened in the first book. I can't be the only one who struggled, right?

In [b:Carve the Mark|30117284|Carve the Mark (Carve the Mark, #1)|Veronica Roth|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1462467867s/30117284.jpg|44736077] I connected well with Akos and Cyra, but in [b:The Fates Divide|35820633|The Fates Divide (Carve the Mark, #2)|Veronica Roth|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1513195268s/35820633.jpg|46168217] I just couldn't. I'm quite disappointed over all. Especially since the reviews indicated that this would be the better of the two books. Oh well.

Good follow up in the duology

Dragged in places but still better than the [b:Divergent|13335037|Divergent (Divergent, #1)|Veronica Roth|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1588455221l/13335037._SY75_.jpg|13155899] series

Roth, I officially forgive you for Allegiant. I love this story. I love these characters. Perfect.

I don’t know if there is another book in this series, but if there is, I have absolutely no desire to read it.

I honestly couldn't tell you what happened because I was bored throughout the entire thing.

Both books in this duology were just so flat and boring. I never cared about any of the characters. The additional perspectives didn’t add a lot of value to this book; the sides of the story they were telling, especially Eijeh’s, weren’t terribly compelling. There wasn’t much suspense or dramatic tension. I expected a lot more character depth from this author, given her history.

I may be a little biased (it’s my #1 favorite series), but everything about this book completed the story perfectly. Cyra and Akos are both put through hell, in their relationship and their own personal struggles. I typically look for a good romance, but it is so refreshing to see such raw characters who are clearly meant to be, but their flaws and current struggles push them away from each other, rather than into a full-fledged romance, which is what we normally see in Dystopian, post-apocalyptic novels. I really feel for both of them throughout the series (this book, especially), and the situation makes it feel all the more real to me. Love love love this book!
