Popsugar Reading Challenge 2023 - a book you meant to read in 2022

It's always satisfying when Eve and her chosen family of cops (with the help of her former thief, current gazillionaire gorgeous husband) take down the bad guys; but when the bad guys are truly awful fuckers like they were here, the payoff is sweeter.

Loved seeing my favorite characters in action again.

I love the In Death books and am always amazed how the author keeps the stories fresh despite it being book 52, but this was a bit of a mixed bag.
The first half of the book dragged a little. The murder victim and the suspect didn't pull me into the story like some of the other books. It wasn't until a second connection came to light and pieces moved quickly that the tension increased and the pace sped up. That's when I was glued to the page and couldn't stop reading. The ending was very satisfying.

Number 52 in the In Death series has Eve and her team investigating the death of an artist. It appears like a crime of passion, but when investigating the 911 call, which happened an hour after the body was discovered, something isn't adding up. Soon, Eve is neck-deep in an investigation into a fundamentalist group and it's not pretty.

52 books in and I still love every one. Eve and Peabody continue to kick ass and take names and I'm here for it every time. There's always something fresh in this series and now I can't wait for the next one!

Eve & team investigate a murder that leads to an "organization" that thrives on bigotry, human trafficking, kidnapping, & wealth. The investigation leads to international crimes and the biggest bust of her career. Coordinating multi state & countries it takes everything to have a successful bust and put everyone in cages. Flashbacks to Eve's childhood spur her on. Trina, Peabody, & their men celebrate some new beginnings & Roarke is his usual anchor. The book holds a lot of shades of truth and could be ripped from today's headlines.

Nadine is going to write a book about this, I can feel it.

Always SO good to be back with Eve and gang - I think I say that every review, but it's true. These just still grab me and keep my attention, always so enjoyable. Love the one thing that happened and can't wait for more on that. Great book, great series. Read it. :)

"Love, she thought, doomed some - she saw it nearly every day, every day. But... And bullpen full of cops or not, she took Roarke's hand. Some, love saved."

The first was a little slow, but as soon as the cult aspect of the book came into the picture, I was hooked. I love getting to see Eve and Roarke's love for each other and their marriage bloom more and more. Plus I cant wait to find out more about the surprise Mavis and Leonardo dropped on Eve, and seeing Bella grow more and more plus see how the pregnancy goes for Mavis.

The only disappointment I have is for how short the ending was. Usually there's a little part that is about just Eve and Roarke after she finished a case, but there wasn't.

Can't wait for Septemeber when the 53rd book, "Forgotten in Death" is released.

If you are a huge fan on strong women, especially strong women in upper policing roles, then the In Death series is gor you, and I highly recommend starting with "Naked in Death"

As for the "In Death"die hard fans, JD Robb has done it again, you will not be disappointed!

Not much to say about this one except goddamn I love Roarke 😭 He is pretty tertiary to most of this case and doesn't play as central a role, but he's always there like a light shining in the distance - offering Eve his love and support (and pizza with vegetables).

"You think of everything."
"I think of you."
She met his eyes. "I know you do." (346) ❤️
