DNFing this set, don’t like the art style and it’s not very clear I’m not sure how we’re ending up from one scene to another

A good continuation with slightly higher stakes and a Doctor Strange who relies a little more on the physical than the mystical.

A, dare I say, too on-the-nose story about magic versus science. There can only be one because toxic masculinity. I want to say I'm joking but I'd argue that actually describes the main conflict in this volume pretty accurately.

I wasn't as crazy about the follow-up. The story was too decompressed, taking quite a bit longer than necessary to resolve. Ironically, the art is way better in this volume than the first collection. It was easy to follow as well as being pretty to look at. I guess ultimately I'm a words > pictures kind of guy.

The extra tale after the story, which chronologically comes between issues 6 and 7, feels like a deleted scene, but it's a full issue. Problem is, it's not really needed. We got all of that information through the regular story.

It's still worth the read, though, because it is solidly constructed and follows through on the premise. I was rather hoping it would be a little more clever by the end
Spoilerand that Strange would have a modicum of mercy for the bad guy
.

Proto Gorr The God Butcher was kinda suffice level you get what you see. When strange had eyes he had MCU Trevor / Jack Sparrow energy. A few panels I looked at for like 5 minutes unable to figure out what was going on.

Some good concepts in a bubble (like the can’t eat human food or magic toll) bad to let them become semi permanent parts of the mythos which it seems like they haven’t other than a few passing references to the demon fringe etc.

Arron’s Avengers run was the first thing I read from him and it frustrated so much I don’t know if I’m actually meh about his writing or if lingering resentment is seeping in. Not an unbiased review is what I’m saying.

Do I like Doctor Strange now? I'm so mad about this turn of events HONESTLY.

I'm living for his librarian friend Zelma. I'm also glad that Doctor Strange himself refrained from making out with any tentacle lady demons in this one.

Of the four volumes I read, this one is my favorite with all the supporting characters coming out to help Strange defeat the Empirikul. I enjoyed seeing the other mystical people even though many of them seem like racial stereotypes that Marvel should probably really work on modernizing. I felt the conclusion of this arc was very satisfying and the art continues to be bonkers fun with a lot of bright colors and kinetic action.
