This was fun. Kind of scattered, and I haven't watched the original trilogy in a *long* time, so remembering wtf was going on was a challenge. The characters were easily relatable to, though, and I'm interested in the next one.

I *loved* Mister Bones, though. I would read a book just about him.

There was a time that this was my favorite Star Wars book. I liked the characters even if I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style. Rereading it after 6 years, it just feels like a sprawling mess. POV shifts are frequent, which isn’t automatically a problem, but it keeps shifting to one-off characters who often have nothing to do with the plot at all. I think it’s trying to set a tone and worldbuild but it didn’t work for me. The main characters I was attached to got barely any screen time because of all these cutaways. There were some moments I still enjoyed but it was a disappointing reread for me.

The biggest problem with this book is the way that it was marketed as a bridge between VI and VII. I expected more. I realize that they can't spoil anything for VII but I thought that we would at least have a better sense of the new government structure after the destruction of the Emperor and Death Star. What we got was a glimpse into a chaotic meeting. I thought that the Interludes were a distraction to the weak and meandering plot so the pace of the novel couldn't even save the boring plot. I did enjoying seeing Rae Sloane again as a character that has shown growth since A New Dawn. I think I'm done with the canon novels and will stick to the movies.

Got about 70% of the way through. It was interesting, it introduced me to some great characters (Mister Bones!) but in the end I just didn't want to keep reading it. I felt like it lost steam. It's a shame because the conflict was definitely ramping up but even that didn't hold my interest. I'd rather move on to another book unfortunately.

This was perfectly alright Star Wars fiction. It didn't rock my world and at least kept me nominally entertained. Aftermath picks up right after the original trilogy and deals with the messy situation that the New Republic (aka the rebel alliance) has inherited from the Empire. The hammer has fallen but that doesn't mean that the fighting has stopped or everything is back to normal. Remnants of the Empire are still hiding out in the outer rim and whole planets need assistance. There's orphans, foot shortages, mass destruction and chaos. Aftermath follows Wedge Antilles as he scouts around the outer rim planets looking for any presence of the Empire. Lo and behold he stumbles upon the hornets nest and he's going to need a lot of help to squash this before it gets any better. Action packed, filled with characters that were... ok. Not bad, but I'm going to take a break before I continue the trilogy. Only recommended for hardcore fans of Star Wars that have seen the original trilogy.

Too many interludes, not enough plot (for a book this size)
