Fun. Fantasy. I dont think its technically YA but it kind of has that larger than life feel. Made me feel nostalgic for all the fantasy and sci fi I read as a teen

Before I get into this, I only read this because I found it for really cheap on Amazon and finishing a series feels satisfying even if I hate it (I know there's a 3rd book but I'm not counting it since it's a companion).

I think my feelings are pretty much the same as with the first book: basic book with basic characters. It's not anything out of this world. The plot is very predictable and boring. Even the villain was underwhelming. My one positive is that it's a really fast read.

Love triangles aren't my favourite and this book revolves around one. It was pretty obvious from the first book's ending but I wish it would've played out another way. I was shipping Britta and Aodren more than her with Cohen.

I don't think Cohen is a horrible person but Aodren is more mature and less toxic, in my eyes. Cohen is a red flag. He kept making choices for Britta, omitting things she should know, he forgot her birthday and left her behind when it was obviously not what she wanted. You know it's bad when his 14-year-old brother has more common sense. Meanwhile, Aodren respected her, and even at one point wanted to let her decide for herself but Cohen obviously stopped that.

Overall, meh. Meh plot, meh romance, meh characters. Just meh.

EVER THE BRAVE surprised me in many ways.

There are a bunch of great characters in this series. They all have great growth and bring something to the storyline. I liked getting into their minds via their different POVs. The villain of the story totally took me by surprise. I didn't see it coming, and it definitely brought another element to the story.

Time to talk romance. I liked Cohen from the start. I enjoyed the progression of his and Britta's romance and thought they fit together and worked together very well. I was extremely worried about the hint of a love triangle when I read the blurb for EVER THE BRAVE—I even put off reading it for a while because I didn't want there to be one. While reading I really wanted to hate King Aodren, but he slowly won his way into my heart. I am very happy with the way everything played out and the final decision Britta made in the end. That is all you will get about that from me.

I really enjoyed the world of Clash of Kingdoms. It's complex yet easy to understand. The pace is slow, but not too slow that I got bored. I'm glad I read this series and look forward to seeing what the author does in the future.

Low key wanted her to end up with the other guy, but it’s fine. It’s fine.

Okay, so, I didn't review it, but I really liked Ever the Hunted. Really liked it. So I had high hoped for Ever the Brave, and though I enjoyed it, it was a little disappointing too.

What I liked:
Still really like Britta. I love this smart and badass lady. I love her story and getting to see it continue. That she will do anything for the people she cares about. I just really enjoy her.
Still really like the world. I always like fictional politics so a lot of this was fun.
I liked Aodren as a character, his willingness to do whatever he has to do help his people is a good trait for a leader to have.

What I didn't like:
I loved that the first book did not have a love triangle. I love a good solid relationship, or none at all, and Ever the Hunted sort of gave me both. Britta was solid with no love interest, then when it began it was a solid relationship. But then I hit the second book and boom, love triangle. Jealous boyfriend. Ugh. I don't want it, let me just have characters with a solid relationship. It just felt unnecessary. I wish it had been left be.
And to be honest, I kind of wish she had chosen the Aodren, because for most of the book I really didn't like Cohen. He bothers me so much, it felt manipulative, doubting of her abilities, aggressively over protective and jealous, and it's not til towards the end of the book that he actually chills out a bit and isn't obnoxious. It just bothers me.

Maybe if I wasn’t feeling so poorly then I would be able to have a better review but just like the first book. It was slow going and I kept getting distracted. I kept on going and the main heroine really just kept getting pushed to the side by Cohen AGAIN... and three stars....

Ever the Brave surpasses Ever the Hunted in my opinion. It begins where the last book left off and throws the reader right into the thick of things. The king and Britta have both healed from the injuries and are attempting to move on from what happened in Ever the Hunted. Cohen has been tasked with catching the channeller who had manipulated the king and used him as a puppet.
I enjoyed the story and characters more in this book because they didn't feel as whiny to me. Britta was not as preoccupied with her feelings for the love interest in the book. She was more invested in taking down those that opposed the king and hurt those close to her. Cohen seemed to get his act together as well but he still annoyed me a bit. I have to say that I wasn't rooting for him as strongly as someone else to be with Britta but he did get his act together by the end of the book. I enjoyed how the villain was more central in Ever the Brave rather than being the "man behind the curtain" in Ever the Hunted. It added an interesting element to the story making a much darker book than the first. I would have liked for the author to take the story even further though. I felt that the confrontation between Britta and her companions and the villains was anticlimactic. I would have liked for it to have been a more drawn out, bloody battle. I wanted to learn more about the powers and their uses in battle. The author only said things like Britta learned from so and so and spoke about how other types of powers can be used for healing.
Overall, the book was good and an improvement on the first but average. I don't think that I will be reading any further into the series if there are more books to come.

Well firstly, I didn’t remember much from the first book. Though that was probably because I read that one over a year ago and I didn’t reread it before picking this one up. But as I was reading, things were slowly coming back to me.

Something that I majorly disliked about this book was Cohen. I went pretty much back and forth with him in the first one; but I just stayed not liking him in this one. Honestly my least favorite thing in books is when there’s a dude who is overprotective and overbearing when it comes to the female main character. For the majority of this book, Cohen acted like Britta couldn’t protect herself (even though she’s a better track and better shot with a bow than he is) and kept trying to make decisions for her. I hate males who think they can control a woman’s decisions, no matter their intent behind it.

Another thing I disliked in this book was the romance and the fact that there was kind of a trope that I absolutely hate present for most of this book. Honestly, if you took the romance out, nothing about this book would have changed. It doesn’t add anything to the story and it’s totally and completely not needed. I also didn’t care much for Cohen’s or Aodren’s point of views in this. I mean yeah sometimes, they gave us useful information that was useful to the story; but the majority of it could have been cut.

Now on to things I enjoyed though. I did really like the friendship between Britta and Aodren and I did grow to like Aodren more as a character towards the end of the book. I also really enjoyed Britta’s interactions with Gillian. Britta is just a likable character and I usually like her interactions with everyone else; especially her scenes with Phelia. Lirra was also a favorite of mine, I loved her sass, her fire and how brazen she was. Learning more about the Channelers was also something I liked, I was intrigued by how all the Channeler magic worked and we finally got some explanations in this book along with Britta.

I did enjoy the story to a point. It was a fairly fast paced book, so things kept moving and it kept me intrigued. I was loving the plot and the high stakes in this book. What with Channelers going missing and Malan and Shaerdan being on a the brink of a war. I was into this book and the plot but I didn’t buy the ending. Things just cleaned up too nicely and too quickly for me. It’s almost like the author was running out of room or time so she just decided to end it there and force everything into this little box. The ending was too abrupt and too perfect for me. No main character died. Like you’re telling me that these two countries were at the brink of a war, they hate each other and there was talk of this big battle and no main character dies? It’s just not realistic.

Overall, I can’t say that I loved this book; but I also didn’t hate it. This story had potential; but this book flew slightly flat for me. I really enjoyed the first one, but this wasn’t the continuation it deserved.
...
Well that was anti-climatic
