Enjoyed the story but the editing needs some work - so many grammatical mistakes.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars
I DEVOURED this book in 2 days. It was so engaging and thrilling from the get go, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoyed the multiple POVs over different timelines, it spit up the book really well and kept you hooked and needing to read 'just one more chapter'. There were most definitely times where I did not like almost every character in the book because of the suspicion surrounding them or hearing how they thought when the chapter was from their POV, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves a good 'locked room' style thriller with a deeper backstory and very well written characters.

Secluded cabin Sleeps Six

I love the concept of scary stuff going on at a secluded luxury cabin (updated locked room mystery!) and I loved “Confessions on the 7:45”, so I was happy to receive an ARC from NetGalley and Park Row Books. The characters are introduced at a Christmas dinner gathering, and just enough details to peak your curiosity. There is mention of the cabin getaway a few months down the road, along with a mysterious DNA test and I was hooked into the story. Then the weekend arrives, new characters introduced (shady ones)— and the mystery builds.
There are multiple viewpoints and storylines besides the main drama taking place at the cabin. Henry’s story is full of sadness and his mother’s dark past, very interesting! There is at least one person stalking outside the cabin, along with the owner of the cabins who has cameras in all the rooms, including the shower — so creepy! I won’t give away more than that, but these are some elements of a thriller that I love, since we don’t know yet what their intentions are or why these six are being targeted. I was more interested in Henry’s backstory than I was with the shenanigans at the cabin (which were somewhat predictable) but I was definitely invested in finding out how the path of the DNA tests were going to converge....likely to all of the answers! So, yes, Lisa Unger does her job of laying a trail of breadcrumbs that most thriller readers will be happy to follow to the end.

Where do I even begin? This book was a complete mess. While I appreciate reading books with multiple perspectives, I found this one particularly confusing. The brother’s character was messed up, but the sister didn’t care. I felt like the characters were not well-developed. This wasn’t my favorite book by this author.

Audiobook-

Kinda a throwaway murder-mystery sorta deal- I enjoyed listening to it, but it’s wildly implausible and doesn’t really leave the reader much room to figure out what’s going on. With the best of this genre there’s some indication or hint, or later chapters fill in the blanks/alter perception of previous chapters. With this the antagonist just feels kinda random, and the characters toe the line between cookie cutter and potentially having some depth. The message on family is nice, but idk how Hanna still deals with Cricket. There are a lot of better books out there in this genre, but there’s 10 times as many worser ones, too.

I kept waiting for the jaw dropping moment and it never seemed to come…felt like I saw what was playing out kind of early on but oh well
