This book was my post-Hunger Games read. For a chick flick, I enjoyed it quite a bit!

I won this book from the Goodreads First reads giveaway. First of all, I adore the design of Giffin's books. They are clean, simple, and elegant. But I have a hard time loving a book whose protagonist drives me crazy. And Rachel bugged me. She was such a doormat, and though I felt sorry for her, I didn't want her to compromise her values just to find her voice. The writing was well-done and the character were clearly drawn. But I do wish that it had ended differently.

I read this book because I had it resting on a shelve for months and I had to give it a try. I was disappointed however. The main idea was interesting, but the whole plot hadn't been managed properly. Rachel was a weak character who complained on and off about her friend, who was bosssing her around and was unfairly luckier than her, but still she didn't do anything about it, not even telling her what was bothering her. The only thing she did was to have an affair with her friends fiance, Dex, who was in a way her rebellion against her good girl self. Their relationship was borring, because he didn't want to call off his marriage and she didn't say a thing about it to him. Plus Rachel appear to be a woman who is not satisfied with her job, but is afraid to quit, and the only thing that can fullfill her is to have a boyfriend. Finally the book was at some parts like a turist guide for the best restaurants and clubs in New York, as the characters spend their time in those, at a different each time. Hopefully the second book will be better (its on me shelve too so i have to read it) but i don't keep my hopes up.

I have had multiple people from my summer job, librarian and teacher friends say that they loved this book. Personally I'm not a big fan. The whole idea of her cheating with her friend's husband to be just totally peeves me. I don't approve it, plain and simple.

I'm kind on the edge about the characters. Rachel is someone I can relate to but my god, I wish she had a bigger back bone to face up to Darcy. And speaking of Darcy, what an annoying character! She reminds me of people from high school that I couldn't stand then and I can't stand reading about them now. I knew Darcy was going to be pregnant but I was totally surprised when I found out it wasn't Dex's...had a "gasp" moment. Really liked Hillary...strong female character, didn't put up with crap, etc.

I won't be reading on in the series but I kind of want to check out the movie when it comes out on DVD.

There are very few things I disliked about the book but firstly the fact I saw the movie before hand was a terrible idea. The book is a lot better than the movie because the movie adds a bunch of unnecessary things. The roll of some of the characters is much different a well so that threw me off at first. I would definitely recommend this book but BEFORE the movie!

I gave this a four rating because as far as chick lit goes, I really enjoyed this one. The emotional tugs were much greater than in any movie, but I guess that's the book vs. movie theme. Super juicy and exciting and yes I'm a thirteen year old girl. Fun read.

So well written, great character development. Kept me on the edge of my seat pretty much the entire time. I was not expecting the ending but LOVED it.
